Does your local movie house have intermission during the movies?

I do not know when this trend started, but I do know for sure that I have missed the short intermission period at the public cinema/movie theaters. When did they stop doing this? The intermission was the time for us to get up out of our seats and go get some more pop corn or a snack for the next half of the movie. Also gone are the days when you could see two movies for the price of one. I remember going home from work and trying to change my clothes as quick as I can to catch two late night movies at our local cinema. Do the local movie houses in your country have intermission during the movies or not?

That's how it is now. You get what you want befoe the movie and hope it lasts right through the movie.

i do find it annoying when people start to walk in and out while the film is on

Actually, I have never heard about intermission in public cinema or movie theaters. And I don't think it is the right things to do. Because while watching a movie, we pay all attention to the story in the movie, if it stopped suddenly, we will feel very bad because we want to know what happens next in the movie. Can you image when you are watching a action movie, while the hero was chasing by the bad guys and just about to be killed by them. Suddenly intermission comes. Do you want to go on you movie or go out to buy some pop corns? So, I don't think intermission should exist at the movie theaters.

There is a pro and con of it Marmot. The intermission do not have to be where there is a climax in the movie but I had seen movies where the intermission comes just when the lead actor is chasing the bad guy so yes we cna wait 15 minutes to see what happens because then we cna go get some more popcorn and drinks (more money for the movie houses) and come back and sit down and enjoy the end. I recall as a kid we use to try to guess what will happen next during the intermission and it was a lot of fun

Well, I have to admit that put intermission in the middle of the movie is a good way to increase earning for the theater. But for me, I'd rather pay more money to a theater with no intermissions. I like to watch the movie with no break and I always guess the progress of the story while watching, instead of think of it in the break. That's the difference between us. But you are right, there must a lot of people like to relax for a while in the middle of the movie because seat for at least 90 mins is not very easy to anyone, and when a movie last for 3 hours like The Lord Of The Rings, it is a little hard I think.

I am from India.Generally Indian movies in any language are bit longer in length. They last for at least three hours so we have intermission in each movie and this is still seen in today's movies too! There were few movies which had two intermissions , 'Mera Naam Joker ' a movie by the great actor and director Raj Kapoor is one which I can recall to have witnessed! Yes intermission is a must to go to toilet and then to have a packet of pop Corn along with a cup of piping hot tea to enjoy for remaining half of the movie! We get snacks at the Snacks bunk too during this period! Yes, dear gtdonna I too do recall of having two pictures shown on a single ticket one before the interval and one after the intermission. But these used to be the movies in English which used to be in shorter length. I remember one of the movies which was of the two in one instance, and I think that was "A candidate for Killing!" Thanks dear friend for the topic which made me nostalgic at this age of 50! Have a nice day! Bye!

Nope, no intermissions. At least there hasn't been in forever. I hear Gone With the Wind had an intermission... but that was like seventy years ago. Sometimes I think it would be good to have intermissions again, especially with some long movies coming out. 3 hour plus films really should have intermissions. It's just one of those things that has changed over the years. I don't really think that it's a bad thing.

Exactly! 3 hours sitting on those chairs will relaly make you want to stand up before your legs catchs a cramp. not to mention by time an hour has gone, your popcorn is finished and your drink si probably just ice in the cup

It is a good idea, partly for business (Theaters make pretty much all their profit off of snack and drink sales, they have to send the majority of the ticket sales back to the studio). But I wonder who would have to push for intermissions... the theaters or the studios? Probably the theaters. Or maybe a studio producing a 3 hour plus film would take the chance to improve business. Some people are really put off by long movies. Personally, I'll watch a long movie if I enjoy it. I love the Lord of the Rings.

Tell me about it. Now the tickets are so expensive you have to sometimes think twice about going to the movies.

5 to 10 minutes is good too, thought 15 minutes I think would be better. So many times I sit in the movie and just wish I could get up and get some mroe popcorn or another drink.

No. I have never been to a place that has intermission, except for the drive-in theater that shows two films and the break is just between the movies. I see no need to have an intermission for only one movie. The typical movie is only like 2 hours and I don't think that that is very long.

2 hours may not seems ot be very long, but remember you are staring at a screen for 2 hours non stop, it could be bad for your eyes. I wear specs so sometimes I just look away and try to blink a lot.

I live in Australia and we haven’t had intermission at the movies for many years! You are right that it is not a bad idea as it gives people a chance to go to the bathroom and get more snacks etc. We used to have a lot of drive in theatres here and nowadays I think there is only one left! I remember watching two movie for the price of one at the drive ins and they used to have scary films on at midnight. It was many years ago and a lot has certainly changed!

Exactly Paula...gone are the days when going to the movies was fun and you can really enjoy two movies for the price of one. I think it is more about profit now than about entertainment.

I can remember as a child having intermission between movies. this was the best time to hit the concession stand for popcorn, candy and a drink. I rarely see these times anymore. You have to leave the movie in progress or get your snack before the movie starts.

Yep I remember those days too. I actually do not get up at all during the movies because I hate to miss some important part of it...so I wish they would bring back intermissions

Interesting. This is actually new to me. I suppose our cinemas here are patterned after the ones described above by torres216 from usa.

I live in the u.s. and i have never been to a movie theatre or cinema with intermission. Usually you by your snacks and use the restrooms during the previews before the movie begins.

I think having an intermission is good because so many times I see people getting up in the middle of a movie ot use the bathroom or get extra snacks. Not to mention sometimes your 'seat' hurts from sitting for so long.
