Is the "love" between Reid and Obama over? Could it be jealousy?? I certainly agree with the following statement from Reid - "It’s a lot of pretty talk, but it only gives the president more power. He’s got enough power already.”.
Harry Reid blasts Obama on earmarks!
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blasted President Barack Obama on earmarks in advance of his State of the Union address Tuesday, when he’s expected to call for a ban.
“I think this is an issue that any president would like to have, that takes power away from the legislative branch of government,” said Reid. “I think it’s the wrong thing to do. I don’t think it’s helpful. It’s a lot of pretty talk, but it only gives the president more power. He’s got enough power already.”
Nonetheless, Reid said he looked forward to the president’s annual address, which he hailed as a “vision for rebuilding America.”
Senate Republicans also blasted the president in advance of his speech, where he is expected to call for a five-year spending freeze. Republicans say it does not go far enough. They want a return to 2008 spending levels, a plan backed by House Republicans.
“The problem with that is it freezes in to place an extraordinary increase in spending over the past two years,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters. “So it strikes most of us that the effort by the House of Representatives to get us back to the 2008 spending levels would be the direction to go if we really wanted to have an impact on our annual deficit problems.”
McConnell pointed out the president asked for a three-year freeze on federal spending in last year’s State of the Union address.

hi whiteheather what I would like to see is obama doing his campagin promises where he was going to alleviate the jobless state in our country and promote jobs,he has not done any of that. I did not hear his state of the union speech but I am fed up wo th the politicians who p romise us great things so we will vote for them and then forget they ever madethem'. my opinion is that ob ama and all of them do not really care about us we the people as hes all for helping every county but his ownl. My son is now working two part time jobs this
week and he said he will make 500 dollars which is a heck of a lot better than no job.

Annie you do not agree with me on anything. In this comment I think it was very clear I was referring to his promise of reducing the unemployment in our country. A good way is to stop kissing the illegal immigrant's butts who are stealing jobs from Americans and legal immigrants.

I also wish Obama would make his campaign promises a reality instead of just the usual political hot air. It is VERY obvious that our government does not give a darn about "we the people". I am happy to hear your son has found some work
...kudos for him not just living off unemployment benefits.

"Could it be jealousy" ??
Nah ..."jealousy" in my mind would be McConnell's and other republican speaks on "breaking" the POTUS, etc.
I believe Reid and any other congressional rep. has every right to try and protect what he feels is his means of taking some bacon back to his constituents ... period, that's all there is there!

Obama was never going to keep that promise. He had that promise when he first got into office..."I will veto any bill with earmarks". Then turned around and signed them instead of vetoing them. It is nice to hear...wish he was serious..but it he isn't.
By the way...it isn't taking more power. The president has the right to veto bills. It has always been in the presidents power to do it...for any reason. It is wether or not Obama or any president wants to use that power....Reid of course would perfer that Obama NOT use it. I think most of congress wishes that president could not do it. But I do think it is a good idea if used correctly.

lilwonders456 I agree with your comment! Veto power is good if used correctly but dangerous if used for the wrong reasons.

Glad to see Dingy Harry get a little miffed and his main man. Just the same, he is kind of silly to do so. Everyone knows that the things said in the State of the Union address will eventually amount to nothing. Chill Harry. There will still be plenty of time for your corrupt schemes.

Although China sure does own ENOUGH of our debt, it's not as high an amount as many often imply.
http://www.bankruptingamerica.org/tag/debt-held-by-the-public/
China, Japan and the UK own about one-quarter of our debt. So, rest assured...China hasn't quite bought us...not YET, anyway!

I'm not at all sure there was ever a "paradise" between the President and Senate Majority Leader in which trouble could be! I'd hardly call their relationship these past two years anything like "love", that's for sure. Of course, the Legislative Branch already has more power than the Executive Branch and OF COURSE they don't want to give it up so naturally they consider the President to already have "enough power".
You say you agree with Reid's statement but does that mean you agree with him on earmarks and that you're fine with them? Somehow I'd gotten the impression you were against earmarks and pork. You know, the funny thing about earmarks and pork is everyone hates them unless it's THEIR earmark or THEIR pork. I mean, how often, if someone's Senator or Representative announces he or she has brought "X" amount of dollars for "X" number of good jobs to their state or area, do we hear a protest of, "NO! We don't want those jobs; we don't want that new road, bridge or whatever..."?
The bottom line is pork is only pork when it's someone else's pork...lol! Also, Senators and President rarely are in lockstep with each other, which is how it should be. It's what "Checks and Balances" are all about.

NOOOO NOOOO NOOOO I do not agree with Reid on Earmarks. I do not agree at all with earmarks and pork, IMO, it is mostly a way of reimbursing people for campaign donations or other such favors. I was agreeing that the president already has enough power.

The only reason Reid is upset over what Obama said is because he wants to keep spending. They all love those earmarks and they don't want to give them up. They'll fight tooth and nail to continue to suck federal money for their pet projects.
In actuality though, I don't think he has a thing to worry about. I don't think Obama was any more serious about doing it than the last time he said it back when he got elected. It was just a talking point like most of what he said in the state of the union address. It just sounds good but he's not actually going to do any of those things.
As for the spending freeze. That's useless. Spending is at record high levels. Why would we want to freeze it there? What, are they stupid? The only thing that will do any good is if they eliminate the deficit spending COMPLETELY. The ONLY way to reduce the national debt is to start taking in more money than they spend. Period. Don't these guys in Washington understand how to do simple math? They are going to have to face up to it and quit deluding themselves and do what needs to be done. People like Harry Reid and many others WILL NOT do it though. They believe they can just keep spending and putting America further in the hole, further in debt, without any consequences. But somehow, these people that are running America into the ground keep getting re-elected. I guess there are just too many voters just not paying attention. The republicans need to propose real spending cuts and then whoever votes against it, we need to vote them out of office in 2012. Anybody that writes an earmark into a bill, we need to vote them out in 2012. We need to get rid of the people in Washington that demonstrate that they are not willing to balance the budget and pay down the debt. That's the only way to solve the problem.

A vision for rebuilding America?! Is this man serious? Obama just changed the word "spending" to "investing". He wants to spend more money that we don't have and dig us deeper into our financial chasm. This president has been a disaster. Instead of pulling us out of our economic disaster he's making it worse and if this continues there will be no turning back and no recovery possible. Get ready for even rougher times.
