How do you treat the mild to severe feet conditions that you suffer from?

The two feet conditions that people often suffer from are heel spur and bunions. Both are continually painful and hard to get rid off. Calcaneal spur or heel spur, is the in-growth of the heel bone mostly due to deposit of calcium. Bunion is a foot condition where the big toe bends towards the second toe forming a sharp bony prominence. Both are painful. Recently, someone I know is diagnosed with heel spur and has been advised light exercises and all over cushioned shoes.
Do you suffer from any painful feet condition? How do you treat it?
My wishes are with you...

I have degenerative arthritis in my bit toe. Over the years it has gotten worse where I can no longer stand on my tip toes with that foot, which causes the arch to tighten because it is no longer stretching. I also have a bunion where the big toe attaches to the foot, which at times makes it hard to wear a shoe. So when buying shoes I have to be careful on what I buy. I make sure I get wide shoes, with no seams or anything else that goes over the area that has the bunion. I try the new shoe on at the store and walking in it quite away and also make sure I bend my foot while walking to see if it rubs on the bunion. I have nerve damage now in my foot from the degenerative arthritis and sometimes a tingling or burning sensation. At times I also have severe pain. If I bump the toe it feels like it is broke. Taking 4 anti-inflamatory over the counter pills helps sometimes with the pain. Soaking my foot and using lotion helps ease the tightness. I also try to do some exercises with the toes and arch, as much as it will let me.
My wishes are with you also.
Hugs

That is so painful Lynn. Arthritis could really bad hurting you like anything. It seems worse since you do not know how or what will relieve you. I know someone who has it.Bunion, I heard, is also painful but proper shoes with enough room and cushion help. I am sure you are under medical supervision and doing the best. Just take care and be fine. My wishes Lynn for you.

Thank you Mim, actually I haven't seen a doctor for years, the doctor told me to learn to live with it and that there already was nerve damage. So I just deal with it. It actually is not that bad yet, I can deal with it. Thank you for your well wishes. Take care. Hugs

That's good to know. Anything that lessens that pain medically is good. Love and a big Hug!

I knew someone in her sixties who was was going through a lot of discomfort and pain on account of heel spur. Being from an orthodox family, they experimented with a lot of alternative therapies, which gave her only temporary relief. She had been advised surgery, but was avoiding it. They shifted from the neighbourhood, so I don't know how she took care of it eventually.
While there are foot care products coming into the market, to help lessen the discomfort caused from heel spurs and bunions, eventually from the little that I know, surgery seems the option to get the necessary correction done. If detected early in some cases, the deteriroration of the condition can be slowed down by the use of correct footware and ther means.

So true. However, cushioning all over, shoes with arches and padding helps to support the heels and also the irregularity of the bone structure in bunions. Surgery depends on the severity of the conditions.

Thankfully, I can say I do not suffer from any conditions, feet or anywhere else. I think that is due to 3 factors.
1) I usually wear comfortable shoes with good arch support,
2) I pay close attention to nutrition in my food.
3) I maintain a positive mental outlook.

Great! I think, choosing of shoes is important. I have stopped wearing the high heels and it feels so much comfortable now.

Oh, man! I just lost everything I wrote. Grrrrrrrrr!
Anyway, I have both problems from time to time. I was 16 when I needed surgery for bone spurs in my heels. I was on crutches for six months after that! It was NOT fun!
The doctor who did that surgery said that in about 40 years I'd need my toes operated on and he was right... well, close. Five years ago, I had a bunionectomy on my right foot. The pain was so bad I could barely walk. They had to "break" the long bone in that toe, remove part of it, then put it back together with titanium screws. So far, my left foot hasn't caused me much of a problem.
Every now and then I have horrible pain in my heels because of falling arches (that causes heel spurs). I have to see a podiatrist for injections of cortisone, I believe. They then custom fit me with arch supports and wrap up my feet. I wear them for a few days, then I can take the supports off.
I try to make sure that every pair of shoes I buy has excellent arch support. Occasionally, I use an insert in my shoes that provide a little extra support but, when the pain gets really bad, I have to see the podiatrist for the injections.
Your whole body hurts when your feet hurt. It's amazing what pain in those two small body parts can cause!

Hi Marti!
That must have been painful! I really look up to you and wish you all my love and best wishes. Bunion is a painful condition and so is calcaneal spur. The calcium deposition sometimes gets so bad that it has to be scraped out as in your case. And you were 16 then! As you have mentioned, our body fails when our feet fail. Life is indeed terrible without healthy feet.
I wish you quick recovery from the hernia. You take care.

The only foot problems that I suffer from are the fact that I have arthritis in my left ankle because I broke it when I was a child. That ailment is something that really isn't all that difficult for me to know how to deal with. I know that when it is really cold and damp outside that I can't be on my feet for an extended period of time. In addition to that, I also know that I have to have some relatively flat insoles in my shoes because the break that caused the arthritis has also left me pretty flat footed on that side of my body.
