BRCA Gene / myLot

I just got a phone call from my cousin who has been fighting Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer for 2 years. Her doctor tested her for the BRCA 1 and 2 genes. She came back positive for BRCA 1. She is my cousin on my mother's side, we share a grandmother. I wondered if anyone knew if the BRCA gene is passed on matrilineally or not. Also, do I want to know if I am predisposed or not?

I would want to know, that way I could be scanned for signs and get my insurance to pay for it.
