So many are criticizing the Aussies, that they do not have it in them to win the World Cup this time. What do you guys think? Can they win it?

Supporting India is Ok. But saying that India is the lone runner in the cup race!! Isnt that a bit more optimistic than required?? :)

Oh sorry! i used that by mistake but i want to say that India is really on top as favorites for the cup at this time. They are world winnner and they are tough finisher of the game. Their bowlers are performing in batting as well as with leather. They have one the best batting line up as of Sachin's best as he said many times(and we all know he God of cricket).

why not they have talent , they have very good oneday players ,they are no 1 in the one day ranking. i dont think that they cant win this world cup . but i definetely admit it will not be easy task this time as they are losing thier way .there players have been retired . World cup is taking place at sub continent and it will be very difficult to handle srilanka and india at their home ground. and yes cant ignore england and southafrica too as they are amazing teams

If you ask me, they have one of the best one day sides, if not the best. The batting lineup is really threatening. The way they are playing against England, no one can write them off.

Problem with Aussies is they were very hard to beat and hence whenever any team is playing against Aussies they give their best.Such is the reputation of Aussies, they are playing in world cup finals since 1996 consistently.Having said that they are not as strong they used to be so other top contenders like India ,SL,SA ,England have to play poor cricket to give this world cup to Aussies once again.

I would not say that the Australian team has weakened, or that they are not as strong as they used to be. It's just that the other teams have improved vastly. Eg: The current Indian team :)

Of course, they have a chance. Australia have suffered in the test matches not the ODI's. They are still the number one ranked team in ODI cricket. As the famous saying goes, the match is not won till the last bowl is bowled. On a particular match day, both teams have 50 % chance of winning it. So does Australia.

Well said lucky119. Australia still has a deadly ODI side.

Not at all.... You are right they do not have in the form of wining the world cup this time.. Though they have the capability of doing damage any time but this time they are not in that condition.... There will be essence of change this time..

Dear Cris09, It is a good question. the chances of the Aussies winning the cup this time, is very low. But we cannot simply write them off. Lets us not forget that, they are the current reigning world champions and that, they have everything to lose. So they will surely bring their "A" game to the field. But what might hamper them is their batting. Even with Ponting coming back, the batting is fragile. Their bowling has been performing better with the return of Brett Lee. It will surely be an interesting scenario. Share your views...!!! Balu.

Good observation. Yes, Brett Lee's return has surely boosted their bowling. I was just checking their KFC Big Bash players. Australia has so many good players waiting to enter the national side.

i can't see them doing it this time.sure they are number 1.but the thing is they are struggling to keep that spot. besides they dont have a settled bowling attack, too many bang bang players.all not very confident. i will be surprised if they make it to the semis this time

Seems difficult with the kind of bowling attack they have. They do not even have a single decent spinner in their ranks. Aussie captain is un-inspiring & there are no heavy hitters down the order. I do not think that any opposition will fear Smith walking in at 5 down ! Watson is their only match winner. It will be too much to expect Watson to fire in every match.

Considering their present situation I think Aussies will find it hard to pick the world cup.Now all the teams are stringent opponents to the Australians. And in the near future India,England,South Africa etc teams have showed that beating Australia is not an impossible task. But anyway it has to be admitted that Australian are real professionals and can give real fight to the teams.

surely australia are good side in ODI. now in the odi series against england also they are performing well after facing a big defeat in ashes test series. but i don't think that they will win the cup this time.

No one can under estimate them. But it is going to very tough time for them this year to retain the cup.Its not easy to fight in Asian countries. Also except watson all are out of form.So it is going to them little bit pressure to handle in a important title war. Currently india is in ultimate form and no one can stop them. Its difficult to Aus to face India in india at any time.
