Kim Clijsters is Australian Open 2011 champion

Hi All, Kim Clijsters defeated Li Na in the Australian Open 2011 final to win the title. She was down 1 set before making a remarkable come back. Li Na lost her way in the third set and by that time Clijsters had already made progress towards the title. After withdrawal of Serena, Kim was favorite to win this one and she did achieve this feat. She played fantastic tennis through out the tournament and was a worthy winner.

I think it was a super result for both ladies. I think Li Na had a really great run to the finals of the Australian Open. I think she will go on to win at least one Grand Slam going forward. On the other hand what a blast Kim is having since coming back after the pregnancy break. She has been phenomenal and throws away all those theories that you are done and dusted after pregnancy!! I simply loved the speech of both the ladies after the match. It is great to see that the fun is back in the ladies game. Cheers! Ram

Yes, the speech after the match. It was very good to see both players speaking out their heart and the way the crowd applauded. Li Na has made China proud while Clijsters has become a Super Mom. This finale was better than the men's finale.

It did take a special superhuman effort to come back from 1 set down. Especially when Li seemed to do no wrong. In the first set Li Na was consistently hitting winners at speeds in excess of 135 kmps. Australian Open has made a mockery of official tennis rankings. Good to see more competition in both mens & ladies events. Thanks for Li & Clijsters for putting up a superb show. Both of them gave their best for the finals. Too see so many winners being chased down & returned was befitting a grand slam finals.

Yes, it was exciting to see such a final after a long time in women's tennis. Both players played well and the crowd applauded both. Nice finale.

Kim Clijsters is no doubt the winner in many people's prediction once the news broke out that Li Na gonna be her opponent. Reason is because Kim is confident and consistent whereas Li is confident but not consistent. I can see Kim achieving great performance for the rest of the year be it in grand slam or any other WTA tournaments but as for Li I just have doubts if she can. For me, Li might just be another Zheng Jie, such that she can have great performance at times and being just average or terrible most of the time.
