Are you still going to the movies?

I never was a big movie goer. I've been to the movies twice in the last 16 years and it was probably 10 years in between. With DVD's, computer's and movies coming to TV within weeks of being released I'm surprised the Theaters are not going out of business. I much rather sit in the privacy of my home , eat and drink and if I feel like pausing the movie I can. Do you still go to the movies?

There are certain movies worth watching in a theatre than to enjoy them all alone at the comfort of our home.I see that i do watch those "certain movies" in a theatre but nothing else.As of the rest of the movies --- my PC is more of a small video library!Last movie i had watched in a theatre was one week ago.Great day.

I agree...certain movies are a must see in the theaters. I watched Avatar at the movies and at home again and it was so much better at the movies but like I said it's far in between for me to go see a movie at the Theaters, it has to be a good 1.

NO!!!i do not go to theater just to waste my money for watching movies. Since i have already an internet connection in my home, so i can easily acccess and watch new aired shows and movies. Cheaper but still thesame with you are watching in a theater.

It's been about 8 0r 9 years since I went to the movies and the last 3 times I fell asleep. I cannot sit for that long without falling asleep I'm afraid. Or sometimes my elbows ache and I cannot get comfortable. It's not like where you are...Most movies never make it to the free TV screens, not for a couple of years anyway and not the block busters. Maybe the DVD comes out but only for rental overnight at high prices and I live in a remote community so cannot take advantage of those...the postal ones are still too expensive for me. I think the majority of movie fans still love the big screen. I too thought they must go out of business with the coming of DVDs but that has not been the case....interest in movie going has been renewed and the numbers have grown enormously.

When you think about the box office figures, movie theatre going is way too expensive. I'd much rather watch at home too.

Lots of casinos here in Vegas have movie theaters and they always seem to be quite a few people in line. I don't see how but I guess they still in business. It is a good getting away from home thing to do if you have kids but for me i rather sit at home and watch a movie.

No, not really. At least not as often as I used to. In the last 5 years I've gone to the movies a total of 5 times. Let's see, I can even name 'em all. Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006); I took my youngest to see this. It was the first movie he'd ever seen in a theater. He was 6 at the time. Over the Hedge (2006); Took my youngest again. However, we had to abort mission after about 20 minutes into it. But hey, we still got to watch a little bit of it. Does that still count? LOL The Secret Life of Bees (2008); My first (and only) trip to the movies alone. It was great and worth every penny. I was able to watch it on the big screen without any interruptions! Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009); Took my oldest to see this. It was his first time at a movie theater. As he's autistic I wasn't sure how he'd react. But he surprised me and did great! And finally... How to Train Your Dragon (2010): Took my youngest again. Although I kind of wish I hadn't as it was more brutal than I thought it would be. But it was still cute in it's own way. That's all of 'em. See, I knew I could name 'em all. Before my kids came along, my husband and I used to go to the movies all the time. The last time we went to the movies together we saw The Lost World: Jurassic Park. And here that was back in 1997. I was 8 months pregnant with our oldest at the time. However, with it being the four of us now and movies costing as much as they do we'd rather just wait until it comes out on DVD or blue-ray. It's so much cheaper that way. Though it's still fun to splurge and go to the movie theater every once in a while. We just don't go all together, that way it helps keep the cost down...kind of. Happy mylotting!

That might be true for some, but in my family's case it's just the opposite. LOL You should try going by yourself sometime. You never know, you just might like it.

I guess when you have kids you more prone to go to the movies. None of my friends are movie goers either so there is no one that I could go with really. Back in the days I used to go a lot but never with a boyfriend or husband.

Yes , right up till this day. I've been going for years and I think it's not a waste of money for me because sometimes I get free passes , hehehe. Just the other day we got some free tickets again. I have a close buddy who used to work in the cinema before and he gave me free tickets because he was too busy to watch. So that's just awesome. But of course , not because of freebies. Even if it's a paying trip , I will still go because I love the experience of going to a movie theater. My family has been brought up to have a love affair with the movies so yeah. Just something sentimental and close to my heart.Nothing beats the experience of watching something from the big screen than at home , unless I'm too lazy to go out I'll just watch DVD's at home.

I hardly ever go to the movies myself because I can't afford to go . It is expensive to take your family to the theater and I want to watch the movie with my family not by myself.I would probably like to go more then I do if I could afford to go more then I do. Even if I could afford it I would watch movies at home most of the time since it is cheaper to buy the movie and watch it at home then to go to a theater but It would be nice to afford to go more then I do so we could do something different every now and then to do as a family. It is hard to afford to go anywhere as a family how expensive things are. Have a good week!

No, I don't like the movies. But I love movies. I like to watch a movie in the tranquility of my room. I nearly always watch my movies on my PC. Why would I want to put clothes on, go the nearest movie theatre, spend quite a lot of money, and then watch a movie with the possibility of coughing; rustling papers; talking; and whatever else? I'll very, I mean very occasionally go and see a movie with a friend: I've probably been maybe four times in the last 18 years I think. But my choice is watching them on my PC. I belong to a great DVD club; and I'm happy with them. I don't miss the widescreen or any of that either.

Hey missy! I'm with you! I was never big on going to the movies either! I much prefer to watch them at home and be able to sit comfortably and not have to listen to all the noise around me. And the "pause" button is great if you have to get up and do something! The movie theatres are way overpriced and by the time you go the movie is out on DVD within the next few months anyway!

Yes, I still do. But I only go for only two reasons. First, the movie has awesome special effects that you would appreciate more if you're watching it on a wide screen. Second, if my son wants to see one. Other than those two reasons, I'd watch a DVD in the confines of my home. The only drawback to this is that I get to see a particular film six months after it has been shown in the theaters.

It seems like they come out faster than that lately. It takes about 2 month and they already on DVD. I think if the movie isn't that good to begin with they release it faster than a really good movie.

It's a rule in our country. Legitimate stores can't sell the DVD of a movie that has only been shown in theaters for less than 6 months. My option actually is to purchase one online.

I don't think theaters would ever go out of business. Well, there are lots of people that really want to enjoy the visual and special effects that a theater can provide. There are some movies that I don't need to see in theaters. G.

I really do love movies. I go to the cinema atleast once if not twicve a month. It is just something different to do, it is a nice treat and it gives me some good time with my friends and possibly the chance to get to meet new people. I never went to the cinema that often when i was young, spent most of my time going in the pubs with friends, now i love going to the cinema and watching some amazing movies, just wish that the prices were a little cheaper. I do like to be at home also but it is a completely different and better experience in a cinema.

Yes, I was for a while, not a lot, maybe just a few times a year when something came out I wanted to see. Now I might stop altogether, because the inexpensive theater got sold out to the more expensive one and we can't afford it anymore..:(

I'm with you missybear. I used to go to the movies a lot years ago but it tapered off to never. With my big screen HDTV, surround sound and bluray player, I've got enough of the movie experience right here at home. With the movies coming in the mail, it just doesn't get any better. I think you'll see more and more movie theaters going out of business in the next few years. We have already lost a couple in my area and I think part of the reason is they just priced themselves out of the market. People started to realize that one trip to the movie theater for two with snacks and drinks costs about the same as one whole month of unlimited movies by mail. Plus you can leave the car in the driveway and save money on gas too. There's no comparison for me. I'll take movies in the comfort of my own living room any day.

I still go to the movies, if I can afford it. I love the feel of the big screen and just getting out of the house. I also sometimes like hearing the comments from the audience. And I also like hearing the audience members laugh. Sometimes when I watch a DVD or watch a movie on Justin.tv, when a funny incident happens, I think of and miss the laughter of other audience members.

I have never been a movie goer. The last movie I saw in the theater was Finding Nemo if that tells you anything. I just learned of a theater in my area offers couches and rocking chairs as seating and it is more of a living room feel. I may be trying that sometime soon.

Well, I don't; but I would if I had-the money and -way too much spare time! The movie-theaters DO serve the purpose of effectively 'transporting your mind into the movie'---i.e. watching at home, you're more immediately aware that you're 'watching a movie' (and not 'observing actual goings-on in the alternate dimension behind the fourth curtain' )
