Hot and Spicy

I wasn't too sure where to post this discussion, here or in good health natural foods. Last night my granddaughter wanted to go out and eat oriental food for supper. We went to a very good oriental buffet. I like to get some of the Wasabi (which is really Japanese horseradish,) because it really burns then stops almost as soon as it starts, not like the Mexican spices which seems to burn for ever. Any way I tried the hot mustard sauce and let me tell you, this will wake up your taste buds. The next time I have any sinus trouble I'll get some mustard from this restaurant. This stuff will go right to the back of your throat and right on up the sinuses. One very good way to clear them out. We have a jar that my daughter bought for egg rolls she made but the jar doesn't hold a candle to what we got at the restaurant.

The sounds very good. It seems the restaurant food is very testy. Well Spicy food is little harmful for sinus. So i think who has sinus they should avoid more spice and can eat little. By the way i like spice and hot food very much.

I really don't think that hot spicy foods will harm the sinus once in a while. Now if a person had those sinus clearing condiments every day then maybe they would do the sinus no good.

Yumm! That sounds like a really yummy restaurant. I love spicy food. I wonder why the burn from Wasabi is different than different spicy foods.

The capsaicin in the peppers affects the taste buds Wasabi has isothiocyanates which produces vapors that effect the nasal passages. Wasabi is made from a green horseradish.

My sister and I went to Applebees one day and ordered a sliced beef sandwich that had onion blossoms on top...well the server told us it was hot but we thought we could handle it! Turns out the meat was soaked in jalopena pepper juice....our noses ran, our cheeks turned red and it felt like someone had poured lighter fluid down my throat and started it on fire.....so I know what you mean by Mexican spices! LOL...glad you found something you really like!

Hi jill. Next time you have something like that happen try a spoon full of sugar. I find that when I get something too hot that the sugar stops the burn. If one spoon full doesn't work add another oner.

The very best dip for eggrolls is sweet and sour sauce with a little hot mustard. Not too much! It's yummy to die for! I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy stuff. I love authentic Mexican but always pass on the spicy stuff. Speaking of horseradish, my ex told me a long time ago to stop buying cocktail sauce for shrimp because it was only ketchup and horseradish. He was right! My sauce is much better because the jar sauces you get have vinegar in them and taste funny compared to homemade.

I also like the authentic Mexican foods. I love good spicy chili. The Japanese Horseradish is green not the white that we are familiar with. I'll have to try the ketchup and horseradish.

I could use some of that...my sinuses are bad. I love spicy foods but not so much when it burns my whole mouth.

Thats the thing about the hot mustard and wasabi They don't burn in the mouth It's more in the nose and when you think you can't stand it it stops.

I love oriental food and mexican food. I like the authentic mexican food, not so much the kind you get at taco bell or some of those places. I have several mexican friends at church that can really cook. Being a native Texan I have picked up a few good tips at cooking mexican food. Not really recipes just knowing how to do a few of the things that make that food so good. I can make some salsa that will clear your sinuses but still tastes really good. I think that's the trick, being able to retain the wonderful flavor but still be fiery hot. I love the flavor of jalapenos but sometimes they are too hot to enjoy. We have a favorite chinese buffet that also has a Mongolian Grill. We pile our plates high with fresh chopped veggies and thinly sliced pork, chicken and shrimp. Then we pour on the sauces, usually the sesame oil, the oyster sauce and the mongolian sauce. Then we top it off with a spoonful of the red hot chile sauce. That's what really makes the whole dish pop. It is so hot, you really have to be careful and not get too much on there or you won't be able to eat it. Then you watch as the grill man pours your plate of food on the sizzling grill and walks it around with his long sticks. It comes back to you cooked to perfection. My mouth is watering right now! I love eating there. By the time we finish our mongolian plates there is no room left to prowl the buffet. But, just to top it off we do make a short pass at the buffet. We usually can't eat whatever we put on our plates but we have a few bites, and of course a small plate of steamed shrimp in the shell, dipped in that spicey cocktail sauce that is tangy with the horsersdish. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the sushi bar. You can watch the guy making it fresh, right in front of you. Very, very good. We have that with the mongolian grill. If you don't have the spicey sauces it's just not the same. Kind of boring. But the spice sets it off just right. Oh, I am so hungry right now for chinese food! But it's about 35 miles away. No chance today.

We had a Korean grill in SC that you had the food prepared in front of you. These guys are real performers.

While I have never had a Korean grill I have had a lot of Korean food. I used to date a Korean man many years ago and he introduced me to the wonderful flavors of Korean food. I even love kimchi. Kimchi with a bowl of sticky rice and some of that wonderful Korean BBQ is a meal to remember. I have a hard time finding any kind of Korean food way out here in the boonies.(actually there is absolutely none to be found.) I would have to make a trip to the big city to satisfy that hunger. It would really be worth it though. Thanks for the BR.

It's been a while since I've had any wssabi. And I've often thought the same thing you did, that I should get some when I have sinus problems. I'm pretty convinced that could really help me out!

I like eating spicy foods , though not so spicy. I like to dip my makis in those Japanese Restaurants , in a small saucer of kikkoman with a little wasabi. I like the way asabi makes my nostrils seemed to smoke in the instance that you taste its spiciness! I will try that hot mustard sauce that you have mentioned. I will look for it in those popular supermarkets. I hope i will like it, just as you have mentioned how good it might be for the sinuses. Have a nice day!

Wow! I like spicy foods but they make me eat more though. I like my foods spicy but not that much! I like Wasabi, but it should only be in a small amount and with kikkoman. I like it as a dip for those makis at Japanese restaurants. I like the way that it instantly seemed to put a hot smoke into my nostrils! I haven't tasted any Mexican foods yet, except maybe for tacos, which as far as i know is a Mexican food. What could have been the ingredients in those spicy Mexican foods that you said seems to burn forever?

hi there. i don't know but we seemed to be opposite. for me i prefer mexican spicy foods instead of putting wasabi on my food. i didn't like the taste of wasabi at the first place. but i do think mexican spices are quite better than any other spicy cuisines at all. LOL. i love it!
