I'm the Only One Alive

I wasn't able to drift to sleep right away last night because I was a little anxious. I laughed out loud when I realized the foolishness of my thoughts, why I wasn't really able to sleep. I watched "I am Legend" by Will Smith earlier and I began imagining thoughts in my head had it been me, what would I have done? For those unfamiliar with the said movie, its plot is similar to Charleston Heston's Omega Man in 1971. But since we have better computer graphics, "I am Legend" is scarier. Its about a virus that wipes out humans, making them monsters and Will Smith is the last person alive in New York. I wonder, if you were the last person alive what would you do? Would you stay in a big city like New York knowing that there are monsters lurking in the dark or go somewhere else?

Hello anne, It is a scary position. If I stay in the city, I will be probably killed by the monsters, but if I go in the countryside, I don't think that I will be able to live : in two or three years without human beings working, the countryside would be an impenetrable jungle, and I don't see myself living in a cave at prehistoric age. I think I will stay in the city and try to find other human beings : the hope will make me live until a monster will kill me. I understand that after watching a movie like this one, you have some problems to sleep .

You just disillusioned me a little bit here, Top, because I rather like the idea of picturing you in a cave in a prehistoric era or braving a seemingly impenetrable jungle. Are you now telling me that you have no sense of adventure and would rather die at the hands of monsters than risk living in anything less than a semi-comfortable city?

It was kind of stupid Topfer not being able to sleep because of a movie. I'm no longer a kid who's supposed to be scared of things in the dark. I'd prefer living in a cave if you were to ask me, rather than be open prey to creatures lurking in the city after dark.

Maybe is it because I know what is a prehistoric cave that I don't want to live in one. The temperature is always a bit cold and damp : you catch easily colds in summer, and at my old age some rheumatism after a week . Then explain me how you will find something to eat in winter ? A tribe or a group can survive in nature, not somebody alone. Even Robinson Crusoe had Friday and I hope that you will find some goats and learn fast how to make pottery : a cheese trainer would be nice if you want some cheese .

i won't stay if there is a chance but in the movie, there seems not a chance to go out. there are monsters everywhere. i am afraid i could die of heart attack first than be found and killed by those monsters.

I have not watched the movie, but I can understand why a scary movie might make it difficult for you to sleep. Actually, several people have said that this is a really good movie, but I refuse to go see it, at least for now. It doesn't really sound all that scary to me ... in fact, it sounds more sad, depressing and desperate than scary, which is why I don't want to see it. There are some sad movies that I will watch, but in general I really do not like watching anything too sad as it depresses me, and I was told that is how I would feel if I watched this movie.

I don't know if the movie would depress you. But it did scare me, a bit. I guess its the thought of being alone with creatures that view me as "lunch" was the one that scared me. Thank you for your response.

The part about being alone with creatures that view me as "lunch" would definitely scare me, but the thought of not having human companionship for the rest of my life is what would depress me. As much as I don't like to be bombarded by people, such as in a crowd, I do not want total and complete isolation, either, which is pretty much what I would be aiming for if I didn't want to become "lunch".

But would you eat these creatures and become a cannibal to survive ?

hello anne! i like that movie "I am legend", may be more so because it stars Will Smith. Anyway, like you, it got me to thinking what would i do if i am left all alone in this world? I would surely stay far away from scary creatures. I would also not stop looking for other people, since i am able to survive, there could also be other survivors too. If for some reason, i am really the one left in the world, i think i would not like to live longer. I would rather die soon than leave alone amongst monsters.

Yes I have watched it a long time ago, I like it. And if it's me I'll keep moving by carefully till I find other person/survivor. I won't stay long in one place, but I should come up with the plan to figure out the safest time and way to move.

Better to live in the world where you get used to it, and fight for what is right until you die. It's not worthy that you're there with your loved ones fighting for the odds, and then, you're alone trying to survive or going somewhere? Some people I think had this feeling to go somewhere else, and find a new life. Well, good on them.
