Juno - overbearingly pretentious or genuinely clever?

I HATED the movie Juno. I have no idea why so many people liked it and I can't believe it won any awards. I found it incredibly pretentious, the dialogue clung desperately to quirky sayings, the pregnancy was thrown away like a bad cold, and there was no apparent message - pregnancy is as easy as it is unobtrusive? Strippers don't make good writers? Shocking. Thoughts, anyone?

I liked that movie but didn't really think it was great. It was a good watch and I love the songs. I think it would've been better if the guy showed more concern. I loved Juno ,the lead girl though, and Jennifer Garner (the adopted mom).. It had some morals too.

I like the movie, sort of, but I agree with you that it didn't deserve all the awards. It wasn't very deep or life-changing, but it was a nice feature to watch on a night when you have insomnia, since it's light and relatively amusing. I guess it got all the awards also as a method to promote some young actors, which is not that bad, after all.

I liked it, but because of the attempt at making the quirky dialog choices the star of the show. I just found the lead actress to be entertaining in her performance, especially when she says the part about "the Krakken" outside of the abortion clinic. The best friend had good screen presence as well and the parents were funny. As for a message: do you go to the movies to get messages?

I thought that it was cute in some parts, but overall I wasn't very fond of it. I felt Juno was able to give up her child far too easily. Not that I wanted her to choose another option, I just feel like they didn't dive into the consequences enough. The dialogue was really quirky, but I know loads of people who loved it and thought it was fun and quotable. It's one of those things where I just kinda shrug my shoulders and acknowledge that people are different and they're going to like different things than I do.

I thought juno was a very precocious teenager. I have yet to find a teen with her wit and cynicism. How this person really exisst?

I don't think that meaningless interjections about the running team's er..let's say lower halves..or playing obscure indie music on her guitar makes her precocious.

I guess Juno was not made to tell the world about the hazards and consequences of early pregnancy. The whole time I was watching the movie, I was like, "Why is it so easy for her?" while the documentaries I see on TV attack teenage pregnancy with so much concern for the social problem itself. I just think that Juno was not made for that purpose - to make the young population realize what kind of trouble they're getting into by getting themselves pregnant at an early age. I don't think it has symbolism either so I agree with what you said that it's pretentious and excessively quirky. And yeah, it didn't deserve the awards.
