I think it's complicated, in my opinion torres want to extend his contract, but liverpool think it's the best moment to get high cashes by selling him to get more strikers because we know today liverpool can't maintain their performance in premiere league. Have a nice day.

I totalyy agree with icecubic. From what I hear in Portugal, Liverpool FC has some financial problems and really needs to get some cash. It's better, at this time, to sell one of their best players fora a nice amount of cash. Altough Fernando Torres is almost irreplacable at Liverpool FC, I think that Liverpool still has a good team. Let's hope that Luis Suarez can give Liverpool fans some good moments :)

I could not agree more...It is better to sell him when there are demands, and his price is still high ...I don't think if Liverpool keep him, the club will be better in terms of position in the league...

I don't thi9nk liverpool made a big mistake selling torres. In fact they made a good deal with him by selling him at a high price. Torres is good but if he cannot always play, which is what Liverpool need, he is as good as nothing. Carrol is a very good player. He have been massive for newcastle this season. And I think Newcastle made the biggest mistake here. Liverpool need a striker that can scores and play week in week out. And that mean carrol meet the requirement.

People are forgetting that Andy Carroll is only 22 years of age he still has his years ahead of him and to be honest he will be the more hungier of strikers. Torres has scored 9 this season for the reds and Carroll has scored 11 for Newcastle a team of not much quality, so just imagine how he would be with Liverpool and the likes of miereles,Gerrard and suarez providing him the service for me he was a very good buy and i think he's a strong player and has alot of heart. Torres however is 26 years of age has been injury prone since 2009 and declined in form and had a poor world cup no doubt, 50 million was silly money for Torres considering liverpool paid 23million for his services when he was in his prime. Chelsea have made the biggest gamble here, remember Shevchenko he was alot of money but failed to produce at chelsea after scoring left right and centre for milan for many many years.

You got it right there. Shevchenko and Crespo are the deadliest striker in Serie A and Chelsea ruin their career for good. Caroll with an average team have been scoring goals more than torres. He is more powerful than torres and can scores goals with both his head and feet. Maybe he is not as technically gifted as torres, but who cares as long as he can score goals.

What were they supposed to do? He handed in a transfer request and there was serious interest in Chelsea. It would have caused unrest if he had stayed as he was clearly unhappy.

if liverpool can guarantee that they can give torres a trophy, maybe torres can change his mind

How do you do that? He was clearly not in it.

Without a doubt, Torres is the key to Liverpool's goals. But in recent times, his body language looks like one that is disinterest and cant make to move. Having such a player in the team can be a disruption no matter how important he is. In any case, no player is bigger than the club.

Only time will tell if this was a mistake or not. I don't know Caroll, but I know Suarez is a good striker who demonstrated what he is capable of at the World Cup and in many other occasions. Maybe Torres wanted to go very much and Liverpool saw this a great opportunity to get some money and to change the squad a little bit. Maybe Caroll and Suarez will be a great plus to the team, because they are new to the team and they have to demonstrate that they deserved the chance of playing at Anfield.

Yes, but the honor of playing at Liverpool has to be a great thing. Of course, every player wants trophies, but he is European and World Champion, so a club accomplishment is not so important. But I am sure that Liverpool wanted this transfer as well, so Torres only did what he felt it was right in this position.

They should have let Torres go at this time because he is worth the most now and letting him go later would have resulted in less money. Torres made it clear that he did not want to stay so getting rid of him now was the best move for them. They actually bough two more strikers so it's not that bad for them.

Actually I thought the Torres deal for 50 million pounds was a good one. But what made it a blunder is the subsequent purchase of Andy Carrol for 35 million pounds. By that calculation the purchase of Suarez seems to be a real bargain. Cheers! Ram

would love to have seen torres stay but what could liverpool do? once a player asks for a move then there is the choice of saying no and then being stuck with a player who doesn't want to play for the club, or cashing in and getting sufficient money to bankroll the purchase of two other strikers. I havent seeen a great deal of Suarez but Carroll has the possibility to be a great striker, and can see the two playing well together. The problem still remains though that we don't have agreat deal of natural width, Carroll will thrive on crosses, but unless Gerrard plays out wide the crosses are not going to be forthcoming

Hi adhyz, We all knew how good Torres is when he is at his best and losing him is a big loose to the club. But when Torres leave Liverpool, I do not think Liverpool loose as much as people said. First of all, Liverpool sold Torres to Chelsea because Torres ask for it. It is better for Liverpool sell him for the rediculous price (50 million pound) and use the money to buy other players (in this case Carrol and Suarez) the keep him at Liverpool. Liverpool might lose one best player but got two good players. It is like more balancing. Secondly, Torres is not happy at Liverpool because the current situation there. And keep the unhappy player at your changing room would bring more trouble then good. So. selling Torres is the best option. If he keep staying at Liverpool when his heart wasn't there, he might influence other players especially players from his native country. Last but not least, since Torres leave Liverpool for Chelsea, Liverpool got a win and a draw while Chelsea (since Torres come) got a draw and a lose. So, it is obious that there is nothing much influence from Torres in term of point collected. Torres has given a lot of good memories for Liverpool Football Club and its fans and for that I just wish him good luck with his new team. I do hope that Liverpool can play at the Champion League next season insted of Chelsea and love to hear what Torres would say about it.

The Torress Deal was mainly out for Cash i suppose , as Liverpool are cash strapped with debts and there is a lot of turmoil within the club...it's undergoing restructuring ....and that's why the deal.... But the mistakle they did was to replace Torress with Carrol for such a big deal... Hope their calculations come right ....

I would love to see how fans treat him at when he plays against Liverpool at Anfield. Liverpool were under pressure to let him go considering the lack of champions league football. He is a quality striker and deserves champions league football. They sold him at the right time and got the best price for him. Lets see what changes we see in the Chelsea squad now.

As for me, the decision made by the Liverpool management has its highs and lows...The highs, they got enough cash to made purchases of other strikers, and the lows, they lose priceless striker ...Torres is a great striker, but he does not happy playing at the club due to the decline in performance, and I believe there is no use of a striker that has no intent of playing for the club...

When Torres is at his best then he's worth fifty million pounds but he hasn't been playing well for quite a while now so selling him isn't a mistake at all. To say he's their best player is also wrong as Steven Gearrd is their best player he's by far the more valuable asset. Cheslea are already experiencing the problems of paying over the odds for a player who has struggled with both fitness and form in recent times. Suarez more than makes up for the loss of Fernando Torres.

I believe selling Torres to Chelsea for 50 million pounds wasnt such a bad deal for Liverpool, as he had scored on 9 goals in 23 league games for them.. I feel they have utilised the money they recieved from the transfer very well by signing Carrol and Suarez who will definitely get more goals than Torres did this season..
