Short End of the Stick for Consumers

Things have really become very expensive in my country. Beginning in January 2011 cooked food prices have gone up by some 50% in Malaysia. This is totally unacceptable. People are complaining but the government is powerless to do anything about this. The profiteers are getting their way. How about cooked food prices in your country? Have they spiraled upwards as well?

Thankfully, they have not increased significantly. There were some increases but only minimal. But I'm afraid what's happening in your country will eventually happen in ours. All prices are going up. That wouldn't be a problem if wages are also increasing.

I agree with you beamer88, I would personally like to think that food in our country is still one of the cheapest in our Asian region and has not yet gone up that much although that still leaves to be seen if it can be sustained especially with the rise in oil prices. Another thing is we have not yet experienced any major typhoon or calamity this year which is a major cause of food price increase due to crop and farm destruction, also triggers an artificial shortage and yes sometimes hoarding.

Yes, it seems cooked food prices has escalating at an unacceptable rate. I and my sister decided to stay at home this festive season and cook at home. It is much cheaper and this can avoid being charged with the increased Government Tax. I really hope some relevant party will put an end to this unnecessary 'inflation'!

There appear to be no real increases. Of course a small increase here and there over a year will seem like a lot over time. So really, I think that if I looked at the prices of such things a year ago and then the prices today, it might be a bit more staggered. Still I think that there are many things like cooked food that is really going up in prices. It is really alarming to stay the least. And it is leading to an ugly cycle of everything going out. But our wages that is. Thus we will have to be a bit more careful and juggle what we spend far more then we might have ever before. It will lead to many tricky things to say the very least. Still things are going up and that is really a lot of frustrating to say the least.
