Obamacare Proves The Tyranny of the Senate by P

I have written before about how the voice of the Several States has been silenced at the federal level. U.S. Senators were meant to represent the interests of their states, not the people in them. In 1913 the states lost their representation and the purpose of the Senate has been lost. Yes, you might say, but how can that be "tyranny"? If the States or the Federal Government imposed a gag order on We the People only fractions as tight as the states were gagged, no one would question the tyranny of it. In fact, it would probably lead to revolution (and rightly so). But the 17th Amendment restrained the voice of the state to the point that the States have no representation, most of We the People don't even think they should... and in fact, most Senators are ignorant of the fact they're supposed to. 24 States are challenging the Constitutionality of all or parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. If they had the representation a the Federal level, they wouldn't be relegated to pleading to the courts to make their voice heard... They would be using the representation they already have... in the Senate. How many Senators gave any thought to the wishes of the State they represent when they cast their vote for the original bill? How many of them even thought it was important? We the People were represented in that vote. We may not have agreed with the outcome, but most House members made a point of hearing from their constituents. In many cases, Senators made a point of meeting with the people too. The problem was, they aren't paid to listen to the people. They are paid to listen to the states. But why listen to the states when they never answer to the states? They answer to party, lobbyists and the people, but never once are they expected to listen to the wishes of the very entity they are sent to Washington DC to represent. There is no excuse to continue ignoring the US Constitution and snubbing the state here. All 50 states have 2 people in Washington there to represent their interests. So why are they left going to court just to be heard? It is nothing but tyranny.

When Alan Keyes ran against Obama for the senate he actually said that the 17th should be repealed and the state legislature should choose senators as the constitution originally intended. He was made out to be a freak of nature for the suggestion. I would say it hurt his chances of winning, but he entered the race late and never had a chance to begin with.

The 17th amendment was the single greatest blow to the perception and practice of state sovereignty in our history. If we are ever lucky and persistent enough to get a constitutional convention called, this should be the first thing addressed, the amendment should be repealed.
