CNN is reporting that they have confirmed that Mubarak will announce in moments that he will not run again for President of Egypt. Further that reliable souces have said that President Obama has sent Mubarak a message that he should make that announcement live.
Will this satisfy the people of Egypt ... might they go on to freely elect a president that will be a partner to the US and Israel in peacekeeping efforts in the region?

From what I gather this is not going to placate the people there. They want him gone yesterday. My fear though is that if he is swept aside that something even worse will fill the vacuum. And though that may be suitable for some of the antagonists taking opportunity in Egypt right now, I feel certain the majority of the people will not like a theocratic dictatorship any more than they liked a secular dictatorship.

This is indeed an historical event (30 years) ... and to happen under this American President is most delightful! I mean, I do believe that President Obama's visit to Cairo, the speech he made there, the youth's strong desires to be more like a democracy, free to speak and communicate ... elect their own leader(s) .... it's all just amazing.

...Hi gladys46, Wrote about this yesterday, but it got eaten up for some unknown reason. But the tv cameras and equipment of the reporters were taken so there is limited coverage of the protest. Today is supposed to be a Day of Departure for President Mubarak, but the planned protest outside his home was called off. Reporters have been beaten and some are in the hospital. Negotiations are reportedly being worked out between the US and Egyptian governments for the president to resign and turn over power to the Vice-President and the military. Hopefully things will work out. It's a tricky situation. Take it easy.

Hi There artistry! Yupps! I really appreciate NBC's Richard Engel, Chief Foreign Correspondent's live reporting ... he has said that the VP that Mubarak "selected" is said by the Egyptian people to be not acceptable in any reasonable transfer of power ... that the people knows that that man was very instrumental in assisting the Bush Admin. in the renditions and tortures of their people ... that he is part of Mubarak's "regime" and is totally not acceptable.
Take care.

Mubarak will hopefully get the clear message from the people of Egypt that he isn't wanted anymore and that stepping down is the best option for him and the country. I mean really Egypt is and has been an ally to us in some ways so we need them to remain stable just for our own personal needs as a nation in the area. But for the sake of the people of Egypt it is there right per the United States Declaration of Independence to change the government if they find that it is no longer working to secure them in their rights and their future. So I say let them make the choice on what government they want which it seems they want a Democratically elected government. Wow looks like we don't need to nation build anymore. What a surprise. (Had to throw it in there)
