Authors of vampire stories SUCK!

I watched another vampire movie last night. What a disapointment. What's up with the authors & screenwriters now? Here they have a predator at the top of the food chain, the perfect cereal killer, & they make them into either brooding teenies or ferral animals. It's stupid. Vampires should be the ultimate camaflage predator. They wouldn't be walking around with pale skin wearing black. That would stand out like a sore thumb at anything but a goth convention ( & goths just taste bitter ). They'd be dressed in normal unasuming clothes & would use a little make up in order to blend in so you couldn't pick them out of a crowd. I think after living hundreds of years they'd have figured that out. There also wouldn't be large covens either. The more vampires you have in a area the more humans would have to mysteriously disappear in order to feed them. That would start throwing up some red flags real quick. Yet that's exactly what these authors do, or worse yet they make them "sparkle". I'm seriously thinking I need to write up the HOW TO BE A PROPER VAMPIRE guide. What do you think of recent vampire stories & movies?

Yeah, if I was a vampire I think I'd be more of the "Lost Boys" variety and to avoid suspicion I'd be in a deth metal band........hell I'd have hundreds of years to be one the best musicians out there.........even though deth metal is basically one note played REALLY fast. That said, if you get a chance, watch "Daybreakers" not too bad for a new vampire flick and a completely different take on the subject.

I've heard a little about it. Isn't that the one where the vampire population has exploded & there are no mortals left for them to feed on unless they can somehow change themselves back? It's on my to see list.

There's also a problem with being in the spotlight. Think about it, if you got popular wouldn't there be like hundreds of pictures of you & paparazi following you around. You couldn't get away. After a while I think someone might notice you weren't aging. Even if you left the band & disappeared you might get recognized years later.

Yeah, something like that. Basically the vampires have wiped out the mortal population. Ethan Hawke plays a vampire hematologist trying (unsuccessfully) to develop a blood substitute before the remaining blood supply dries up. Some vampires resort to feeding off themselves which turns them into pointy eared raving lunatics. Throw in the expected small pockets of human survivors, corporate greed, and brother vs brother and you got yourself a pretty decent movie. I don't want to give you too much, check it out and submit back to me your report in triplicate!

I am really disappointed whenever I see that hollywood has released another "vampire" movie, i mean, those are not even vampires anymore...I know a lot about all these things and also about english litterature and philosophy, and well, some classical examples are dracula from bram stocker or carmilla, Edward or any twilight character is a real vampire! but I think that the real myth is still being conserved by the anime, like in vampire hunter X, and also the vampires have given a space for other vampire-like creatures to take place and not all of them are bad, for example, the lost boys, blood+, etc...

I think they've become over romanticized. Come on, they're bloodthirsty killers...

well I think the original myth is not really lost yet but they have become another one, just like werewolves, or stuff like that...it's a shame that someone can ruin this much a well known and really good story, mixing facts, and creating a brand new myth that has nothing or little to do with the original

I am personally fond of Brian Lumley's take on it. He envisions the vampire as an infection of the human brain by an alien parasite. It takes over certain areas of the brain and drives self preservation instincts, affects the pituitary and adrenal glands to give strength and if I recall, his vampires don't drink blood.

I'm not familiar with his work. That doesn't sound like much of a vampire though. They're just stronger humans because of a parasite.

It's actually a complex series of stories called "the necroscope". Good stuff.

And a vampire sucks too. Can you write seriously the guide if you are not yourself a vampire ? You were not speaking of "vampires suck", a bad spoof from last year ? I believe that the next remake of Buffy will be also a bad movie -- I never enjoyed Buffy at the TV... --. Or were you speaking of Suck by Rob Stefaniuk ? I watched only the teaser, but I thought it was a good one, but I agree that movies with vampires are not so great today : we can't have every year a great movie like the Dracula directed by Coppola.

I plead the 5th on my source for the guide... I went to see Vampires Suck not long ago. Sad thing is they were spoofing the movies...but there really wasn't much difference in them.

Vampires suck is only a comedy. The French title is : Bite me without hesitation . For the 5th amendment, it's ok : a grand jury of vampires will decide of your fate after reading your guide .

that is what makes them stand out actually. you can go ahead and try to make a decent vampire but then the sparkle you're talking about will be gone and so will be the watchers

You might lose the teenage girls but the actual horror enthusiasts might come back.

Well, some are good some not really. But you were right, these days they don't show a proper vampire! You should write that guide ;)

I'm working on it but from the looks of things it may end up being a novel in itself.

I never watched more that 1/3 of any vampire movie. It is not my favorite. I am working crazy hours and if I have time, I love to watch comedies or read good book. I wouldn't even start watching any horror movie.

Most horror movies are comedies. You should see mega python v/s gateroid. It's a hoot, Debbie Gibson, Tiffiny & one of the Monkeys get eaten.
