Do you think that Egypt's civilian revolution will lead to an Islamic State?

I think most people agree with the social movement that is taking place in Egypt nowadays. Basically, because it's being reasonably pacific, and because they claim real democratic elections, so that the people can choose their leaders. Mubarak has led the country for the last 3 decades, and has become a good allied for the USA, EU, etc. Main fear now is that Muslim Brothers, the main opposition party in Egypt, wins the elections and lead Egypt into an islamic republic, similarly to what happens in Iran or other countries in the Middle East. Do you think that concern is real? is it justified?

No ... I don't think so! If the Muslim Brotherhood was all that powerful, they would have long since ousted Mubarak! I think that the fact that many, many Egyptians have gone to schools home and abroad, studies well and are now engineers, etc., they are young and many have tapped into American culture ... they, I think will be hard to slip right back into some chokehold! Remember, 50% of Egyp's polulation is under 30 yrs. of age. Many have stuck their toe toes into freedoms of speech vis a vis the internet and you name all the other communications vehicles ... if the Muslim Brotherhood is such as most are saying, I'm doubting very seriously that the Egyptian will be supportive at any free, fair election. We can only hope for the people of Egypt.

It is all too easy for a group like the Muslim Brotherhood to co-opt a revolution and because there are probably divisions amongst the citizens, they will capitalize on them. Being the only truly organized force in this, they will easily take over and turn this country further from democracy than it was.

This seems very likely, even if they are not a majority the most forceful young men will have their way. What is worrying is that this is catching on across the Muslim world.
