Still think Nation building is the way to spread Democracy?

As the events in the recent days have shown that it turns out that when people don't like their government and it gets to a certain tipping point the people are able to rise up and show that they don't like it. Egypt has seen what happens when they try to fake it to make it. Their people aren't going to take it for to long. Also this infection of not liking your awesome president who some how keeps winning with 80% of the vote might not be all that popular. With other countries possibly joining in the tear down your long standing Dictator party that is the zone in the Middle East right now. It looks as though may our stratagy of making Democraies in Iraq and Afganhistan is working....Oh nope looks like the power of the Internet and Social Media is working. Seems to me China has a good reason to limit the internet as well these countries are falling because their citizens where able to communicate and effectively turn the entire country upside down. Social Media caused this and not the two countries that we where say would start it. Seems this is the nail in the coffine of Nation Building as our Foreign Policy it doesn't work and it never has. The people in that area know exactly how they want to be governed and it is completely there choice. Not a signal one of us would like it. If some other nation was telling us how to live and run our country. Democracy doesn't come from it being forced but from the consent of the people. As it turns out Egypt,Sudan and many other countries in the coming months could see a slow movement towards revolutions which means we could see the beginning of true Democratic Republics being formed in the Middle East. We might just get be able to make friends of these new governments if and when they are formed as I feel that this isn't going to end quietly and that Egypt will see at least a violent uprising that will destroy that countries ability to do much of anything for the next few months. Looks like Twitter and Facebook are the catalyst for this and not our efforts of Nation Building.

That is a great point Joe and I think that is the best part of what is happening. The people are doing it themselves. This is how it should be. I wish our country could better remember how we got our freedom. Maybe then they would appreciate it more and fight harder to keep it.

Yeah, People don't like being forced to do something but if they make the choice to do it. They will make sure that it works. I could see in the next few years Iraq going back to the way it was before we went in with a dictatorship. It just wasn't quite bad enough for the people to get rid of their government on their own. I think we need to withdraw from Iraq ASAP. Afgahnistan is more of the place where our enemies are at so we need to focus on that and focus on getting rid of them whereever they hide at. Not attacking soverign governments because terrorist are there but going in and having those governments help us catch the guys then get out of there.

Hi "dark...", I guess that is one way to look at the situation. However, from my prospestive I feel the average everyday person is only interested in making a fair wage for the services provided in their chosen occupation regardless of the profession so they can care for their families and have a fairly comfortable life. To me that is what anyone wants. Unfortunately there are people in this world who as I say aren't "wired" correctly and they are the greedy, selfish, cruel fanatical ones who use religion and other social devices to justify their actions. To mankind's discredit this has been going on since "Kane" took out "Able". What do you think?

I believe that if you are dedicated, you can make things happen. Why our country goes through the motions when we could have things taken care of is reprehensible to me. How is it that we can go to the moon but cant find a group of extremists. For crying out loud, they are tapping our phones and reading our mail. When will they have enough intel?

That's an intersting point you make however one must remember the U.S. is a relatively young nation. Egypt and its surounding neighbors have been around much longer than most of the western nations. The conflicts that occur in that part of the world have been going on for thousands of years; about seven thousand years I believe. The only thing that has changed in my humble opinion is the technology. Now the world is in instant communication and has weapons that are highly technical and extremely accurate not to mention the ready availability of all kinds of chemical and biological agents. When a government fails its people the populaton will take matters into its own hands for no other reason than its survival. The human desire for peace and prosperity will prevail. What do you think?
