I am having a trouble with my canon camera - the lens get stuck for whatever reason, it will get stucked when I zoom out and when I turn the camera off, I have to twist the lens manually when I turn it off... So, I kinda want to get a Sony but I have heard a lot of comments about it is Sony just looks cool but not practical, I have used Sony twic and I have the same feeling. I think my best bet is buying Canon again, do you have any advices? I just take pictures of family, friends and stuff, I don't need it really fancy or expensive.

What do you like SLR or point and shoot? For me I prefer point and shoot because it is so handy and light.SLR is too heavy and too big for me.But it is great if your are into photography. I love samsung dual view TL205.

hmmm I don't know anything but just shooting so I am not sure what SLR is; I guess point and shoot will be the best for me. How's Samsung quality? I never got a Samsung. Is it durable?

SLR - single lens reflex are for those who're really into photography. I don't think you have a need for that as they are very bulky & inconvenient to take around

I love samsung, yeah it is durable. But do not try to drop it because any camera's lens will not be like its old self when you drop it. We are always using our samsung and it is still like new.

I don't think that the brand matters the most. You have used and had doubts with Sony while others brag of the quality of the picture it makes especially if it was a cybershot. This is basically the point, what would not work for you may work for some and its the same the other way around. If you are just taking pictures to preserve precious moments just buy a camera with good specs and has a full manual option. When you already have it in your hands, play with it to really know its capabilities. In the end, no matter how good or bad the camera is, how the picture would look like still remains in the hands of the person using it.

Like what they say, eventually, everything will break down. I agree with this. Most of the things we use especially gadgets has a certain life span. And I see this as something good in a way. Technology grows by the minute. Sooner or later, an additional feature for a certain gadget with be introduced so its like a good thing for whatever gadget you have now to break down so that you would have an excuse to buy a new one. In this way, you will be updated on the new trends.

I would say just stick to Canon as I find they are very reliable & if possible just check the warranty. Sometimes certain outlets gives you extra extension. I remember the one my lil' sis is using also had some problems due to our rough handling but we got everything fixed free of charge as there was extension of warranty on that unit. She's still using it up till today. I think it's a Powershot A35 if I'm not mistaken. I think it's been easily more than 5 years & still going strong

I have use both sony and canon. My father camera is Canon Powershot A350 and my father in law camera Canon Ixus 970 IS. My camera is Sony Cybershot DSC T-99D. As far as I concern, if developed, I satisfied with all the camera quality. But Sone have their own fixture which make them more stand out than canon and make it easier to use to get quality picture. Sony have these sweep panorama which canon don't have. And my sony have this auto close focus for me to take picture at very close range and create large image. And since my camera is touch screen, i can select my focus point and the camera will automatically focus on that point to create a clearer and sharper picture at the focus point. that is something Sony have and Canon don't have. Before you make a decision, you can do more research or you can borrow and try your friends camera.

Hi mermaid, I would recommend the camera I have been drooling on for the past few weeks. It is made by a company known for their durable and ergonomic designs: It is the Sony DSC H55/8 that cost only half but with almost all the features of its high end SLR siblings. If you master the basics, shooting shall be a breeze in no time. I have used a DSLR Sony A200 and it is quite user-friendly and durable. Now I want its more compact and more versatile counterpart. Happy shooting.
