A committee commissioned by Govt. of India to study the hazards posed by the use of mobile phones has come out with alarming disclosures that the excessive use of cell phones indeed pose a great health hazards for the users. Along with the cell phones the cell phone towers are equally harmful to the residents of the surrounding area. The health hazards posed by the cell phones and their towers include loss of memory, lack of concentration, disturbance in the digestive system and sleep disturbances as pointed out the committee. Looking at the use of mobile phones by present younger generation the findings are alarming and thought provoking. We always knew that cell phones pose some health hazards but not to this extent. People are already opposing setting up of new towers in the vicinity of their area now it will be even more stringent. What are your views on this?

yes many shocking things have come forward...but they are all unavoidable...the use of cell phones has grown to so much extent that no one among those who are using is ready to give up ...only the thing we can do that for our own safety we can restrict the use....

Thank you eshan. Main bone of contention is excessive use of it as is being done by present generation. As is jokingly said given the choice between cell phone and parents the present generation will pick up cell phone. They can not live without it.

Why the Indian government should do a survey is beyond me, particularly when such results have been known for many years. I assume someone got a good kick-back from it. My view? Well, if you use your phone enough, you will eventually cook your brain. At that stage, you'll be past caring about the hazards of cell phones.

Whatever may be the reason for initiating the study, the fact of the case is the excessive use of cell phones do pose the health hazard and it is the duty of the govts. to caution the public about it. The big business lobby is so powerful today they can do anything. who can say that there is no hand of such lobby in publication of who's report?

I only know that excessive use of cellphones through phone calls is hazardous because of the rays it emits (I think it's gamma or something). I'm not aware of cellsites being hazardous to health. There are a lot of cellsites here that are planted in the middle of residence and commercial areas. Knowing this information, the service providers should know where those cellsites should be built, not just anywhere where there's an open area.

The WHO has found, through numerous research done on this subject, that cell phones in fact do NOT pose any risks for cancer and or other health hazards and since I believe they do have only the interest of peoples health at heart, I go with what they decide.

Thank you meryembay for your response. We can not avoid use of cell phones. What we have to guard against is excessive use of it the way the present generation is doing. That can be and should be avoided. One thing is certain that mobile phones do emit radiation to what extent it is harmful is the subject of discussion.
