10 doctors got stabbed in Chinese New Year

Just when I was hitting the sack, my sister blew out a horrifying news:10 doctors in a shanghai hospital were stabbed several days ago.you know what time is it here in China, Spring festival, the biggest holiday and hardest celebration here when people pray for the best and laugh for the past, families gather together. The criminal is a family of a patient who died in the surgery table in that hospital, and clearly he took his pain/suffering of loss of beloved ones to the doctors in the hospital. My sister sounded little scared, she is studying medicine at university right now, just one year away to graduate. She had a question that still lingers over me, why the relationship between doctors and patients has come this far? It's not new that there's understanding gap between the patients and doctors in China, people on the whole level really do not project good images of hospitals, high expenditure of medication, un-tranparent charging and even sometimes irresponsibilities, etc. But, seriously, stabbing? it got to be a profound lesson for all of us, for the society to wake up and re-know each other.

I have a doctor who has the personality of a wooden stick and I know what you mean. It is horrible that the man stabbed all those doctors and that he used the Spring festival to get away with it. You did not tell me if he killed them or whether any of them survived. I know doctors have to be more upright with their patients and tell them and their families if there is no chance of survival and that they are doing all they could. But some doctors think that we can read their minds. Had that man known ahead of time that his relative had little or no chance of survival, perhaps he would not have done this. On the other hand, he might also hate doctors.

He's a nuts definitely, driven by the understanding/misunderstanding of the doctors who failed to save his loved one's life, don't know, but it's not the first time for me to hear this type of news.

It is too bad. There are so many evil people in the world and so many who do not have any common sense and do not realize that there are some sicknesses and conditions that no one can cure. I am sure that the doctor told him or at least showed by his attitude that she had no hope. It is not that the doctor deliberately killed her.

That is the act of a single deranged and mind-ill person, not an entire nation. Maybe disrespect to medical staff is more prevalent in some parts of the world than in others (I don't know, I don't have any studies), but that doesn't mean criminal acts are something ordinary. So tell your sister to chill out.

Quite unfortunate to read something like this and perhaps it is isolate cases as really stabbing is a bit over the top. However with every profession today, there are those who are so non-caring as they do not see the patient for the ethics in which they sign up for, but more so for how much they are going to make. You sister apparently has a kind heart so she need not worry that her patients will take her for less then she apparently will be treating them so nicely with.

It's more than an isolate case coz we've heard this type of accidents quite some times, plus the gov are not happy to release this type of info. She is quite an innocent girl with a warm heart, of course, after being in the hospital for some time, she's already feeling tired of worrying so much about each patient. I advised her not to take the patient's moods into along with her.

So sad such thing happens! My heart bleeds for those hurt and killed and yet also cried and sympathized with the killer and his family. It's not new to hear how one has to die because of negligence of those who are supposed to be knowledgeable to save people's lives. Doctors now are so money -oriented and forgot that it's their duty first to save human life. Yes, doctors spend a lot of money before they can be doctors but isn't it, they have a vow to forgot everything just to save life? Gone are the days where doctors treat you first before asking for money. gone are the days where doctors are so well-trained and knowledgeable and not unskilled one practicing over a poor patient's body not minding if it will result to losing a precious life! I think doctors are not be blamed but the society and the lucrative life that the profession promises!

It's a vicious circle we neglected since the spud moment. well, the whole society is monetiezed, and money is indeed getting more and more powerful driving people to do crazy things. But who's to blame? Only doctors, no, every one of us in the society!! We are all one part of this torrent one way or another.

Ok. Your sister is a future doctor then. Please send along this message to her... Being a future doctor please always remember to strive to have a good patient-doctor relationship. You are a doctor treating a patient, not a mechanic trying to repair a car. Always communicate, not just with your patient, but also with their family. And hopefully, incidents such as what happened in that Shanghai hospital will be avoided.

Hi Moirai, thanks for your words and wishes. We had several talks on that, and well, m a sales, so my perspective will be attached the sense of business making. Definitely it's best to be a noble doctor delivering the best services to all the patients, but that's not gonna cut it in the real case, coz you can take in all the pains of each patients, you have your own life, family as well.Being that you are sitting on the role of saving others' life, but still, first be a decent person, then try to be noble person, but that depends. We don't have all that energy to stretch all over, such as she told me she was very very upset about a patient who was unwilling to take food or talk. Well, here's what I replied, you do your job first, try some times to pick up her mood, get into her, but if that's not workable, then don't feel failed or sad, coz you've done your part.
