What are the best monkeys to have as pets? Do spider monkeys make good pets?

Monkeys are very cool and interesting, but they scare the crap out of me. No they do not make good pets because they do not have the same interaction as we do. They will be cool with you one day, but the next, will rip your face off like that lady on the news. You have to be very careful with wild animals.

A monkey would be so good as a pet though, it's like getting a dog was slightly disappointing (mine isn't as agile as usual dogs) and just having a monkey swinging round the house would be so much better. The monkey will undoubtedly become one of the family and protect you at all costs, just like a pooch.

Helping Hands Monkeys - Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled is a national nonprofit serving quadriplegic and other people with severe spinal cord injuries or mobility-impairments by providing highly trained monkeys to assist with daily activities.
I have wanted a monkey for most of my life...still don't have one. There is a program here in Mass. called Helping Hands that trains monkeys to help the disabled. Here is some info they provide re: their monkeys. Capuchin monkeys (species Cebus) are indigenous to South America, where they are common and prolific, and their small size (averaging six to ten pounds) is well suited to a home environment. Capuchins are natural tool users in the wild and have an active curiosity and a natural enjoyment for manipulating objects. Capuchins also undergo natural transitions in their living situations in the wild, and these instincts help them adapt to new surroundings and new people in their lives. Since these monkeys are used to help the disabled they must be a good monkey type to have in my opinion. That's what I will get, I hope, sometime, maybe...lol They also have a foster program for monkeys before they are trained, but you can't have some pets..I have dogs, birds and cats...so I can't do it. I'm not sure if they do fostering in Canada, but they do send monkeys there for work with the disabled. You may want to check into it. Here is a link. http://www.monkeyhelpers.org/

Thanks for the info and the link! Cappuchins are so cute....and smart. I seen them in the wild while we vacationed in Costa Rico....adorable!! That's great that they are used to help the disabled. Certain animals are such a benefit to people's lives. I have 2 dogs and a cat. I'd love to have a monkey one day....but it's not allowed in my town...and I'm in Canada. Maybe one day down the line...when I move elsewhere lol

MOnkeys as pets? I really don't know what type makes a good one. All I know is that just recently I heard in the news how a monkey attacked a boy in the neighborhood. The monkey was able to escape from his fence and attacked the first boy that came his way. Too bad. With this I never imagine if I could ever take a monkey for a pet.
