The Conservative Government in Malawi wants to introduce a ban on farting in public. I mean, how is that going to be enforced? I don't know about you but sometimes I can't HELP farting. I try my best to keep it in but in some cases, it's better to let it all out..unless you want to "follow through" which, in Mum's case WOULD happen if she wasn't allowed to fart. She has an irritable bowel and has to run to the toilet on a regular basis. She goes there to fart as well, especially if there's visitors.
I really thought April Fool's Day had come early when I read the article below - but it's all over the net so I guess it must be true! Just make sure you're not eating anything when reading it, ok?

YIKES, I don't know how they could possibly enforce that! I'm pretty sure *most* people don't like to fart in public and annoy people or maybe embarrass themselves, but there are LOTS of folks who can't help it. Including my husband, sheesh if they had this law we'd never be able to go anywhere!
...are they going to outlaw chili & pork n beans too? LOL

Haha! Don't give 'em ideas lol.
Did you notice they've banned women wearing trousers and long hair for guys. Some guys look cute with long hair, whatever is their problem? They're short of something to bother about my friend!

That's another holiday destination off the list! When I fist met the Boss I would go to the loo to let go of my windy pops. 24 years later I am afraid that I am less well mannered. But then neither is she!! I shall get a double whipping for that comment. Goody!! LOL.

Hello, Janey. Well, that's Malawi off the list of places to go. I come from a family of farters, and although we do let them go when we have to, I try to be polite. I try never to fart in a lift, although that's my brother's favourite place. He has the enviable skill of being always able to do silent ones, so he can let one go and then look around accusingly.
Mine always give me away - they're loud and proud, just like me. I can call them up to order, though, which is very handy when you're with someone you don't like. I can't see how they can pass this law to stop people passing wind, though. Still, it gave me a good laugh.

Hi Sandra, lovely to see you. You do make me laugh. That's brilliant..about your brother. My Mum does a brilliant thing with her farts when she's out. She starts walking really fast, with a bright red face. Gives her away immediately!

I heard about this yesterday on the radio. How ridiculous is it?
Nature intends for us to release these gases and we must keep releasing them in order to be healthy. Sure there are those people who are eating absolute crap food who's farts smell worse than most, but they still deserve to be able to 'release the hounds' every now and then!

This law would just be ridiculous and I can see a lawsuit coming from it. Some people have digestive issues that cause farting so by making this law, it would be discriminatory against them because then they could not go out in public. My husband has a lot of gas issues so he would be one of them. I guess nobody in Malawi will be having a colonoscopy done either because a hospital is considered a public place and one can not help but pass gas after having this test done.

I agree. My Mum would never go out, it's the only time she feels "free." LOL.

That's pretty funny but it could have serious consequences. Farts should never be held in. If you do, they travel up your spine to your brain. That's how crappy ideas happen.

I need a good laugh this morning..this is CRAZY to say the least. I will be sharing this with my husband. However, like others has said, it is not good to hold it in, and my dad is the prefect example of that. He will be standing in the kitchen letting it "rip".
When my girls were younger ( just toddlers ) , and realized what he was doing, they would be pull me off to the side saying "Did you just hear granddaddy, your not suppose to do that " lol. I explained he had always done this for as long as I can remember, as well as how it is not healthy to hold it in. All I got was "GROSS".They are preteens now, and they will leave the room when he decides to let it out. So I am guessing they are going to be young ladies and believe that you are not suppose to do something like that. lol
Thanks for sharing this !

I know, it is crazy isn't it? I'd love to meet your Dad, he'd get on swimmingly with my Mum, she's the same..although she will fart in the bathroom which is even more obvious than staying put lol.

That is quite the interesting law. I should suppose I should be glad that I don't live in that country. I mean, half of my family would be in jail(yeah, chronic gas issues, it is a hereditary thing). That is one of those things that I look at, and I can just imagine the meeting that proposed that law. How would you even bring something like that up? Am I alone in trying to envision the meeting that said law was purposed and what would cause said law to be passed? (Oh dear, a law that bans parting having passed. You know like gas. I believe I have made a really bad pun and it wasn't intentional).
Seriously, how are you going to really enforce something like this? I do wonder how much thought was put into this. Most likely none at all. It is a natural body function. Might be a little gross, but hey, if you think about it, most of the functions of the body can be a little disturbing. Biology, its quite the horror show you know. Still, I'm just baffled.

LOL! I reckon it would be more damaging to bodies if people had to hold their farts in for fear of retribution in public. I mean, would they get arrested? Surely, being arrested is more embarrassing than the act itself, then the farts would come even more through fear. It's unworkable I reckon!

Wow Janey, that's a very hard law or ordinance to enforce, police got a gas chronometer or or something
, just being funny, anyway, one thing with fart is nobody really wants to own up to it

The Conservative Government in Malawi is too ridiculous.Just like eat, drink, piss, sleep, the fart is a physiological needs.Easier said than done,The fart is not easy to keep in like controlling the tap.It would seem that people couldn't eat sweet potatoes, chestnut and the like before entering the public places in Malawi.

Now this would really be terrible. How can people control it? What if you are actually walking by the beach? What if you are in the main roads? What if you go mountain climbing? I find this ban so silly.

YOu have come out with many reasons why this ban cannot be implemented, it would be impossible to police wouldn't it?

What will they think of next? I wonder if the people making the law has never done it. I wish they would just start working on things that matter and quit being totally stupid.

I wonder if they employ fart police
Of all the silly things - this must take the crown! In the unlikely event that you're ever in Malawi you'll have to perfect the art of the silent fart!
(That's the phantom farter by the way)

Wow that is one ridiculous ban they are trying to put into effect. It is gross to walk in public and smell peoples farts but I know that sometimes they cannot help it. Some people really are just pigs and go around farting around everyone not caring that other people have to smell it but I think most people arent that ignorant. I would be very upset to get fined for accidentally farting when I couldnt hold it in. Sometimes its impossible to hold them in.

Hi Janey
I don't see how that law is going to be enforced unless you have police or local lawmakers walking behind people sniffing their butts like dogs and while their at it they need to check their own butts cuz their going to be doing it too so why try to put a law into effect when you yourself can't possibly obey it? I just don't see the point in a law like that
Gas is a natural response the body has and its not going away as they say better out than in

Hi! That's a very good point you make there..the law enforcers will be farting too, it's natural to do so and anyone who says it isn't is lying!

On the spot fine I would think, which would be highly embarrassing. I don't really know what the punishment would be. They've not thought of that..in fact, the whole thing stinks!!
