dear tushavi but obvious you have to choose mechanical engineering as per todays trend. if you choose computer engineering you will stick with specific branch. but after doing mechanical engineering you will get so many opportunities just because mechanical branch is an evrer green branch.

You cannot tell a specific branch as evergreen. All branches have their own value.

First of all, I would like you say that it totally depends on what you want. If you are below 18 you can go for a counselling. Of course, the psychiatrist may not be able to specify the particular discipline for you. However he can give you some idea. While choosing a subject you should not always think in terms of market value. Do what's best for you. Study only the subject that suits you. All engineering fields are based on Mathematics. If you think you are extremely well in mathematics, especially Algebra then you should go for Computer Science. However if you have a greater understanding in Physics, especially the mechanics part, and if you can do the numerical problems well, then you should choose Mechanical Engineering. If you take Mechanical Engineering you may have limited opportunities for doing practical works. Of course, you can build a few things in your college project, but apart from that, considering your country, you may not have any Industrial exposure as a student. Whereas if you take Computer Engineering, there is a vast world of knowledge that you can access for free. It's all in the internet. You may not even have to buy a single book. Everything is available on the internet. You can innovate and create new things and for that all you need is a computer and an internet connection. Tell you what, you go through both the courses. Just read the syllabus and course structure. See what you like. Choose whichever you find interesting. Don't worry much about market. If you can love your subject, you'll do good in it and if you do good in your subject you'll get a superb job for sure.

If it were I that needed to make this decision, I would personally choose to go into mechanical engineering. The reason that I would make this decision is because I know that there is stable work in that area. Additionally, I would also know that I wouldn't have to be continually keeping up with the changes that were happening in technology. There is no reason that you can't learn more about computers in your spare time and start your own side business with computers.

May be you like Mech Eng and do not love IT but let me tell you that I earn my bread and butter from IT . I am working in IT from last 6 years and do not see useless at all . may be one who told you IT story had bad experience about it but that is not same for everyone. Choose what you love to do so that you enjoy your career. Thank You for sharing.

Well I believe, neither one is useless nor less than the other one. It's your choice to make what you want to do in your life. Both has a large scope and career all around the globe. In both fields, there are several specialised sub-fields where you could go beyond and develop new technology. You will do better if you chose the one which interest you most.I'm a mechanical engineering student and it is good for me that I always loved this field and I find it lets me express myself in a constructive way.Good luck in your search!!

For me, I think computer engineering would be better since it's about technology and technology is currently a modern aspect of living today. But I guess mechanical engineering would be good to. It really depends on what or where you're good at. Have a nice day!

I don't know about your country but in the U.S. we have so many computer engineers that many of them are unemployed. On the other hand, everyone will always need mechanical engineers. I have a friend who knows computers but also studied engineering. With that knowledge he built a business computerizing climate systems for buildings and does very well. So you could do both. If I were you I would go for Mechanical Engineering. We will always need people with that knowledge no matter how bad the economy gets or how little people are spending!

The problem as I see it is that things are changing so fast in the real world by the time you get your degree your informtion will be outdated. Take the Mech Eng degree, this will give you a much greater base to work from. Once you have your certifications you can then take special courses in the area you wish continue in.

You are nearly correct. IT isn't quite useless but it is very limited both in obsolescence and glamor. What do I mean by that? Well, first of all, who can say what computers will be like in five years time? And your career is what - forty years? Then, can you repair your girlfriends car? Think about it! Nerd??? Which is really more glamorous? Seriously, mechanical or electrical engineering will give you a job for life.

Hello Tushavi, I'm a computer engineering student. Choosing a professional course is totally your own decision. You told you like computers, If you really love computers then take Computer Engineering. Now Don't think about placement at all. If you do what your heart is telling you can be a good Computer Engineer. Another thing, if you take Mechanical Engg. only thinking of others, and later if your percentage is not good then also its all in vein. So take your own decision in which you feel good. All the best...

I'm a computer engineering student . From what I feel , you should choose something that you desire . Computer engineering is not useless at all from the above responses . It varies on how you look at it . In computer engineering field , your focus is wide . You could concentrate on many focus such as networking , system , security and application . Even if the unemployment rate in your country is high for computer engineering students , you could also work as other engineering jobs as there is a base of engineering in your studies . So , this is just my point of view from computer engineering side . Lastly , I will emphasis on a quote by myself , "Do things that you like and it will make you happy . " . Good luck in selecting your education choice .
