The Angels are one of the most iconic, legendary Australian bands of all time, but I am not sure how well known they are outside of this country. They were probably equally or nearly as popular as AC/DC here early in their career, which started in the early 70's and lasted into the 90's. but they never had the massive world wide success that AC/DC went on to have. They were known as "Angel City" in the USA.

I have seen the band play live on two occasions. The first was in 1993 at a Hells Angels music festival and again in 1996 at a local pub. They were absolutely live awesome in concert!

If you are outside of Australia, have you heard of this band? Do you like their music?

Never heard of 'em lol. They sound quite punkish to me, actually. Good though. You heard of Sham69?

This song gets played (sometimes) when Carlisle United win at Brunton Park. It's been rather neglected lately!!

Never heard of them! I thought that might have been the case even though they were so huge here. They were certainly not a punk band and were around well before punk, but they did have a bit of a punk edge to some of their songs. similar in style to early Midnight Oil and some other Aussie bands of the era.
Never heard of Sham69. What sort of a name is that!
They seem like a traditional British punk band!
This one is probably The Angels biggest radio hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AxRIa-KySc

YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF SHAM69?! I think they're still going!
I've actually heard of Midnight Oil and that band that sing "Down Under." Bet you're sick of that song lol.

No never heard of them. There have been a few bands that you have started discussions about that I have never heard of.
Men at Work sing Down Under. Did you hear that they have been sued for using a tune for that song that hey did not have the rights to use?

Maybe we could start a decent thread here between UK and Aussie bands that we both may not have heard before?
How about these guys? A Brisbane band, popular, but never huge, that are still around today.

I know the Angels! I remember being rather inebriated one New Year Eve many, many moons ago at a local nightclub when Doc came one with the band! My friend and I went crazy! Doesn’t he have amazing eyes! I love their music and I wish they were still around these days! Talking about the Angels brings back a lot of fun memories. I didn’t know they were known as Angel City, that’s news to me…I doubt too many people outside of Australia would know them! “Am I have ever gonna see your face again?”(No way get f*****, f*** off!)

I had no idea that they were known as Angel City overseas either until I started this discussion and found their Wikipedia article. I never really noticed Doc's eyes to be honest!
I wonder if the overseas crowds did the "No way get f*****, f*** off!" chant. Somehow, I cannot imagine the concept of it really being understood anywhere except here in Australia. Only we could find a compliment in that!

I do remember you telling me of your Elvis love in a discussion of mine about The Beatles I think. I like that type of music too. Not so much the country stuff, but the 50's and 60's music was great. Real rock n roll!
