College Basketball- Help me understand March Madness

I just moved from New York to Durham North Carolina where I realized that college sports, more importantly, college basketball, rules. As we approach March Madness I am so confused on how it all works. Who is in the ACC? What happens if you win the ACC as it relates to the road to the Final Four? Is the structure the same for Women's basketball? HELP!
