How can a discussion be picked to be on "mylot digest" and then be deleted?

I am very confused by this. I started a discussion under the "facebook" category two days ago. I received several very thoughtful responses, and it was selected to appear on the daily "mylot digest". Then, today, I received a notification that the whole discussion was being deleted because it violated the rules. Specifically, it was considered to be a "poll or game-type question." Now, it wasn't either of those, nor were any of the responses--in fact, several of the responses were several paragraphs long and very detailed and well-written. I do understand editors can make mistakes, and delete a post that maybe shouldn't have been deleted, and I have no real problem with that, except that it hurt the people who responded. But what I don't understand is how the (presumably) same mylot administration can choose to highlight it in the digest, and LATER decide to delete it--that just doesn't make any sense to me! Anyone know why/how this can happen?

Near as I can tell, the admin don't pick the digest discussions, that's some kind of thing spits it out.

yeah, that'd be nice, but the computer spits it out about 1 in the morning and I'd bet there's nobody there then.

They should review them before the list gets published--or do away with the digest.

Hi Discussions choose for digest is not the manually process that done by admin or other staff.. Its an automatic process. System automatic choose the discussion for digest which having lots of conversation and discussion in it.. So it is the possibility that it can be deleted even after choosed for digest.

I was going to place the same response but instead will add to yours, as after it is computer generated admin may not be around and not have caught quite yet that it was a violation. The computer cannot tell when the discussions are violations, as that is done manually by admin. I have seen discussions in the digest on a Friday and perhaps admin was not around until Monday, it was then that it was deleted. Hi akp..

Thanks--I appreciate your responses, as they explain how it happened. I hope someone from admin chimes in to explain WHY mylot employs such a careless policy. It is discouraging to the writer, to the responders, and to anyone trying to figure out how mylot works. After the computer generates a "list", a real live human should review the list BEFORE it is published to make sure none of the topics violate the guidelines. To do otherwise lends credence to some people's opinion that mylot's earnings policy is arbitrary and capricious.

hi susieqmom the answer is probably software picked out your discussion for the digest and then an admins came along and thought it was close to being a poll type, anytime one asks a survey type question like do you like such and such and expects a number of answers like doing a survey mylots'Go Ask Alice said its hard at time to decide whether or not it is a poll.so I would hit contact and plead your case as you might get it restored as some people have here.worth a try.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Mine was not even meant to be a survey, it was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, which clearly most of the responders recognized. I did contact admin to see if they would reconsider--so far, no response either way. Good suggestion--hope it works!

I've responded to discussions from the digest several times which have subsequently been deleted, and have to assume that they are just a selection of discussions which are chosen by a computer. I saw a discussion in Today's Top Discussions which had only a couple of responses. It can hardly be a 'Top' discussion if only a couple of people have taken part! I guess that's a similar system (or it was a VERY quiet day!). I appreciate that these things are probably computer generated, but you'd think there would be a human filter to run them past before they go live. You must be very frustrated.

My Lot definately DOES have a human editor who decides what stays put and what doesn't. It/he is here: http://www.mylot.com/GoAskAlice

I can assure you I am quite human. I have nothing to do with the digest however. I believe it is an automated system, but I would have to confirm that.

I AM very frustrated. I am actually no longer convinced that there is a human filter or editor deciding whether a topic violates a guideline, either, since my discussion certainly did not "violate" the rule against posting a poll or game-type question. It was meant to be satirical and humorous, and the responders certainly took it that way; it is too bad the editors did not. But much worse than that is learning that mylot doesn't have humans checking what is posted on mylot digest BEFORE it goes out to the masses. That is just sloppy, and does not enhance mylot's reputation. . .that is one policy or procedure that needs to be changed, in my opinion.

I am fairly certain the digest is an automated system, but I would have to confirm this. I will find out for sure and get back to everyone. As top your discussion, it would take some digging. If it said "game or poll", than it was likely one of many discussions daily asking something like " what is your favorite facebook ap" or "how much time do you spend on facebook" . I will take a look at it and see if it was deleted unfairly though. I am always glad to review any discussion I delete.

Thanks--that is more than fair. I really like mylot and even wrote an article about it on another site to help dispel the misinformation that has been spreading about the rating/payment system. More than my own article, I really think the issue with the digest and then deletions should be looked into, and I am very glad you are doing that.
