Absent minded ?

I had a friend who was terribly absent-minded. He lost many jobs because of that, by example when he sent an inking pad in a wagon. Yes, you can be fired for an inking pad. He was working as a dispatcher in a transportation company, and he clicked on "Send Freight" without realizing that there was anything else than this inking pad in this wagon. Sad story . I was reading the newsletter of a public library and found a "Real News Item" about an old German lady calling "police late at night to complain she couldn't sleep because of the noise." Indeed it was her own radio that she had forgotten in her garden earlier. And the police to send her the bill. Terrible. You will find this news in the middle of this page : http://nbpubliclibrary.org/node/13 Are you absent-minded or do you have absent-minded friends ?

Old is not a prerequisite!! Yesterday i took out my bottle of medicine, removed the cap and without takin any replaced the top!! And then i spent the whole day wondering whether i had taken it or not!! By evening i wasn't feeling too hot and by nightfall i decided i hadn't taken the medicine!! So tell me am i going senile prematurely or is this a case of absent mindedness!! A one off!!

Mystical, aren't you the one that said our dear Top wasn't the invalid that I was making him out to be? Now you are suggesting that he is going senile from age? You can't have it both ways you know - either he is or he is not but he can't be both ... unless of course he has a split-personality that we do not know about!

I believe that you have already made a diagnosis, doc ? But there is maybe a problem, especially if you are taking this medicine to remember to take your medicine . I don't remember to have congratulated you for your good '9' red star at myLot mysticalecstasy : it is the good discussion to do it . Have a nice day... and don't forget your medicine !

you won't believe how i found out!! By realizing i am being unnaturally irritable if there is such a thing as naturally irritable!! Oh god don't even go down that road!! I already have nightmares regarding it!! Yeah you didn't and and well the discussion is perfect excuse!! Your losing your memory cells too!! Can't understand how you could not see the red thing over my beautiful wrinkly waves!! Now i wonder if its senility with age in your case!! Took my medicine the first thing in the morning and counted the remaining tablets just in case!! If i manage to remember the count that is!!!

Absent minded me, never.. LOL.. I try not to be as there are so many thoughts within in my brain. There have been times when I have to stop for a minute and say to self, huh, what oh my gosh.. I did that.. It happens to the best of us, it is when it happen way too often that I think we need to worry. Do I have absent minded friends: yes and no comment.

Well, the fact that you forgot to put your pants on this morning before you left to go to work, Top, suggests that you might be just a little absent minded ... either that or you were practicing so that you would be ready to wear that kilt ...

When we have too many tasks to do we tend to forget the less important for us... Does the silly emoticon means that I am an absent minded friend ?

I did not received the notifications of your comments about my shaved legs and my kilt . The interested is always the last to know, including at myLot. Fortunately I have no web cam now, and I realized two or three days ago that my microphone was no more working with a flash applet in a chat room : thanks to Adobe .

Am I absent-minded? How could you even ask such a question? If you can't tell by now, then you are even more absent-minded than I am. When I am very stressed or have a lot of things going on, especially when I am thinking about a lot of things at one time, then I can definitely be absent-minded. Also, I have noticed that when I am very sad or very happy or it is a week day or I am breathing or ... let us just say that I have been absent-minded a time or two and leave it at that, shall we - lol!

LOL! Yes, I have had the phenomenon of the disappearing items many times myself. I do have help in that area, though, as my little one has discovered that hiding Mommy's things provides hours of entertainment while I search high and low trying to remember where I put things. Fortunately, the giggling in the corner as she watches me usually gives her away as the culprit!

I don't remember why I started this discussion . Does this confirm your suspicions, purple ? We can be absent-minded due to stress or overwork. We need a break. I put often things here and there -- keys, glasses... -- and sometimes I don't remember where. For the moment, I have not forgotten my radio in my garden, but it can happen in twenty or thirty years .

Oh those indeed aren't pleasant occurences. I wouldn't really category myself as being absent-minded. I mean at least not like as much as doing something terribly wrong because of it. It happens to me sometimes I'll forget I have something cooking on my stove and I'll only notice it after the smell will come out of it. That's why I'm always checking if all is turned off to prevent this lol but yeah, being too absent minded can be very harmful or dangerous, so IU think people like that should seek some medical attention, cause this can't be totally normal to be overboard absent minded.

Yes, when your cooking is burning it is a bit too late : I experimented that too . I agree completely that it can be dangerous, when you are driving a car, by example. With your user name, ap0calyptic, everything is possible . I am not sure that you can treat every case, but consulting a doctor is a good thing if it happens too often. Thank you for your response.

exactly. specially if you're making one of your favorite meals and then end up with everything being burned, not really cool when you're so excited to eat it for sure lol haha thanks, I agree :P my nickname tho is just for the fun of all the 2012 theories which I find completely off xD sure, consulting a doctor is better than leave it untreated and this is speaking in all terms of health. no problem for the response :]

When we are not focused in doing tasks, the tendency is to overlook something. Sometimes our doing it hastily, makes us commit mistakes too. Multitasking is also something to blame sometimes, that we tend to overlook the other undergoing task while trying to finish another task. When we are so consumed by our problem while doing a task, sometimes would result on a failed task. So i guess, being absent minded sometimes are the result of those above. If not, maybe you are indeed growing old already .

I was not especially speaking about me, simplyd . You have exposed the main reasons of absent-mindedness when you are not completely senile like you think politely I am : wanting to go too fast or to make too many things at the same time. It can also be overwork. All of us have our limits and we have to know ourselves very well to not fail our tasks in such situations.

I didn't mean it as you, but in general, those who are always absent minded. We only learn our lessons when we overlook something because of doing 2 things at a time.

I have ADHD and I have to do multi tasking or else I will be so absent minded, I was actually absent minded when I was bored, when i was pressured in the Job, when my mom nags at me, when my girlfriend nags at me, when my sister nags at me, when my cousin is ego talking about his achievements, When i'm on church and when I talk to an irritating person. Its a struggle but I have therapies to over come this.

Just the contrary of the previous box. It seems that you are absent-minded all the time . Are not you exaggerating ? If not, maybe is it because that you are absent-minded that you are starting so many interesting discussions at myLot ! So, don't change anything, Captain !

Hi topffer, At times of course I am absent minded. I have been in near fatal situation once due to this absent mindedness but still it has not helped me to overcome the ill thing. I was on the road and was occupied by some thoughts and was so deeply engrossed in those that I nearly forgot where I was.

This never happened to me, but I was speaking of the story of Archimedes in another box and it is quite the same : he did not noticed that he was speaking rudely to a Roman soldier because he was too deeply concentrated in his problem. Maybe he did not even noticed when the soldier killed him. It can be a quality to be able to concentrate deeply on something, and why not on a road ? I read your discussion and I know that you are sick now : thank you for your response, and please, treat yourself.

Oh, I think I am one. I have several faults resulting from absentmindedness . While on computer, I forgot I set in a kettle for heating water for coffee on the stove, I just remember it when it was almost empty. Luckily I did not burn the house. This is just one of my many absentminded moments. Guess I have to blame it to ageing! but I'm still far from my senior year!

Hi, topffer! I can be absent minded sometimes. This usually happens when my mind isn't stimulated enough. By this, I mean I haven't done activities such as reading, drawing, or talking so much. These are things that I love to do that helps me stimulate my mind. However, because of work, I haven't been able to do these things quite often as I used to. Now, I tend to be absent minded at work. Example, I plan to do this and that. But even after just a minute of thinking about doing it, I already forget it. And it takes me about 5 minutes or so to remember what I was planning to do.

Hello juneebubby, Overwork can give some mental fatigue, and you look very tired. Maybe is it time to have a holiday break and to take the time to read, draw and talk ? Work is important, but don't let work absorb all your life like this. Have a nice day .

Yes, I really do need a break. Sadly, I can't because I'm not a permanent employee yet. I've only worked in my current work place for almost 7 months now. And I have been contemplating on leaving. But, there's also a part of me that doesn't want to leave. I want to stay there for 5 more months so I can get 1 year experience. But, I'm already tired :( . Anyway, thank you for the advice. Happy mylotting!

That is sad! Your friend should see a doctor for that, a doctor might help him. Oh.. definitely if he's working as a dispatcher, he might get other people in trouble if he's disorder won't get address of. The news made me smile, but it happens. I'm sad for those people, they need people around them to just suck it up and understand. I do forget things but not as bad as that and I'm hoping that it would never be that bad. :)

He does not work anymore as a dispatcher : he has been fired long ago. I don't think it is a medical case. He is and has always been a sort of walking disaster and the first to tell and laugh about his "absent minded stories", that he remembers very well... but he does not realize on time that he is blundering badly. Don't brag, you cannot beat him : I would organize a meeting between them if I was knowing another person like him. Have a good day.

I have fibromyalgia and one of the lovely symptoms that goes along with it is called 'fibrofog' (which is due to improper sleep and pain) and i always forget stuff at work (fortunately, my boss is quite long suffering!) but last week, my co-worker locked her keys in the car so I guess I am not that bad. (i recently heard of someone pouring cereal in their coffee cup and coffee in their cereal bowl too!)

Hello cher, I know that fibromyalgia is very hard to live, and I am pleased to see that you have kept a good sense of humor and are not too depressed. I have never forgot my keys in my car, but I don't always remember where I have put them. Some examples like the one of your coworker or those in this discussion are reassuring and you can think like me : "yes, I am a bit absent-minded, but the case is not very serious for the moment." Have a nice day.

Hi,i think all of us have such experiences: we usually forget things when we are in a hurry. Of course, some people seem always forget things. While others are very careful. And i think those who have a short tempers tend to forget things. I got a classmate in college. He does thing very fast, and i was near to him when made chemical experiements. He did it very quickly and seemed got other thing to do after that. I often kidded that he was going for a date after experiment. And several times, he shouted in sadness: oh, my god,i forget put ... into ... it is really:the faster you want, the slower you get.

Hello aprilsong, "the faster you want, the slower you get" It is so true ! The adage of the first roman emperor, Augustus, was "Festina lente". It means "Make haste slowly". It was sometimes symbolized by a hare in a snail shell. If you want to go fast keep your head cool... Speaking of college, I remember a professor who was complaining against students who were working their exams at the last minute. He said that learning was like cooking, when you read "Leave to simmer one hour over low heat, you can't raise the heat to lower the time needed". At this moment a voice yelled "And with a pressure cooker ?" Well, you need a very good head to go fast and don't forget things.
