The disgrace of the National Anthem at last night's Superbowl

For those of you who watched the big game last night, and saw Christina Aguilera's version of the national anthem, you saw a true national DISGRACE to the country and to the anthem. I mean, adding her own little stylings to it is one thing, BUT to forget, much less change the words, is inexcusable. I'm curious what any of the rest of you think about it.

" I'm curious what any of the rest of you think about it." I can what i thought about it in one word...."oops" *shrug* She isn't the first singer to flub a line, she isn't the first singer to flub a line in the National Anthem. I'm not a fan of her's anyway...I think her singing style is over the top, self indulgent and cleiche. But I'm not going to trash her for forgetting a line, I've flubbed up plenty of songs in my time as a musician. On a side note...the half time show was far worse......Black Eyed Peas? REALLY??? that was the best act they could find to perform for a half time show?

well, I can see your point too xfahctor. She isn't the first to really BLOW it. To me, the halftime show would have been better if their sound system would have worked consistantly. Maybe they should have given Christina the Black Eyed Peas sound man, and then this probably wouldn't have been nearly as controversial.

Lol, no, it wasn't the sound system...it was Black eyed Peas. Fergie never learned to sing properly and the guys in the group are just props. I really can't find a single redeeming factor in them. Zero talent or musical proficiency. I can't stand pop music and these guys epitomize that. The one saving grace was Slash's appearance.

well, to each his own....I mean it was 1000% better than that very poor attempt at the national anthem...AND i mean at least it was someone CURRENT, not like last year when they had the WHO do the halftime show.....at least that's my humble opinion.

hehehe...i'm sure a lot of people felt that way. Funny thing was to watch even the players' reaction when she screwed it up...you could see they were thinking..."oh no she didn't..."

Hi Speechteacher OMG!! Did you see that it was awful she really messed up big time my husband and I were watching it and she just seemed like she forgot the words...Christina is of Latin decent but she's been in the United States long enough to know the anthem she was on the Mickey Mouse Club and was also educated in the US if I'm not mistaken Either way if your going to sing the anthem on national television get it right rehearse it a couple times or something she sounded like she was just winging it and thats to bad becauase if you look pass her botched attempt at performing the song she has a really nice voice but she tried to put to much soul and R&B into it which doesn't look right coming from a person of Latino origin. She is known for her soulful singing with traits of R&B sound to them which is fine ...but I don't think anyone was ever as bad as Rosanne Barr when she sang it was horrible it was a joke for her I've forgotten which team it was but I do believe it was baseball game several years back

Hey Cherryd...I agree 110% with you about her singing the anthem. And thing is though, yes it was HORRENDOUS when Roseanne sang the anthem, but that's Roseanne too..I mean she doesn't claim to sing...PLUS at least she got all the words right, even if it was awful.

I would like to think no one in America should mess up the National Anthem. However, it has happened on several occasions. It's sad to think, that these artists can sing songs that you normally can't understand and then they mess the Anthem up. I just don't get it.

I agree wholeheartedly. It makes no sense whatsoever and in my mind, there really is no excuse for messing up of all things the National Anthem.
