My Name's not Jeef!
Pet peeve moment.
Whenever I go to a coffeeshop I always dread talking to the baristas. It's because they always get my name wrong.
They're nice. They just don't get my name immediately.
I've been called jeff, chiz, chit, shep, sheep, etcetera at the claim counter.
When I look at my cup it usually has a weird spelling of my name.
Other names I've been called: chi, shi, sh!+, jee, ji, jip, lester and so on and so forth
my name is Chester
my nickname is Chip
do I need a placard every time I enter a coffeehouse just so they don't misspell my name?
i guess the only time they didn't mess it up was when I said I was bob.
hehehe
maybe I should follow what my uncle does in places like these, he claims he is james bond. and they always get his name right!
i'm not dexter, rexter, jester, esther, and definitely not jeef!
sigh...
i think i'll have to start bringing a name plate along with me bearing my name so that they get it right.
or maybe i should just continue claiming i'm batman... that way they'll get it right each and every time.

My name is not that uncommon but people still have mistakes with my name. My name is Jasmin. It is pronounced in the Tagalog way as "Hasmin". Some people use the other pronunciation using the "j" sound or the English way. Some also mistakenly call me "Yasmin" and lately, our school paper published my name as "Hiyasmin".

@binggaling,
That's okay. Some also call me that way. As for the "Hiyasmin" thing, I really found the writer and the proofreaders and editors careless because it is easy to check my name in our log book.

I get that all the time. I don't think even one barista ever got my name right without me spelling my name. Before I used to correct it all the time, I'd say again and again that it's jae, J-A-E. You know, like the Korean name. I guess it's not a common Filipino name, but what can I do, that's what my mom named me. After a while, I just got tired of correcting them so I just let them write on the cup whatever they want. Most of the times, I end up as "Jane". Sometimes, someone would almost get it right, but spell it as "Jay".

You're funny. Your name doesn't seem so hard to spell. I wonder why they always get it wrong. :)

good thing they didn't get lazy and just put "J" on your cup
hey! that just gave me an idea!
why don't I just say I'm "C"?
nah scratch that... they might end up putting "Z" or god forbid... "SY" on my cup hehehe

Hi. chipesterkhan. You may need to have your name submitted onto a placard so that they can remember your name. I have been mistakenly called, Tracey or Stephanie because of my name. I don't mind though because these names are very cute. I don't know why people always tend to mix me up with someone else name.
Some people are just so forgetful, or you may look like another name that isn't yours.

ahaha Chester and chip are very far to be mistaken to shi+ or sheep???? But you know my name is always wrongly spelled too and even on my ATM card. Thats why I just decided to stop using that card. Maybe there are some people which are just so careless and inattentive on information you are giving them. Yeah maybe a placard or a dog tag would be of great help.

I have a very similar story.
My name is Dorcas and my nickname is King.
When tell the barista that my name is Dorcas, I get called douglas, orchid, lauren, dorca, orca and other wierd names that I dont remeber.
My nick is King. I can remember being called that name from the moment I started recognizing words. Whenever I give that name in coffee shops, the next question is always..."Why not Queen?"
I dont only get this reaction from coffe shop baristas but from everyone else who asks what my nickname is.
I'm tired of having to explain all the time so now, when someone asks, I introduce myself as Dori.

Hi Jeef! No, Chi, no Chit, no dexter...oh sh!t!
You have awesome names! For me, there's just one name that they mistake with mine - Lorna. I wonder why's that?! Why don't I get colorful ones like yours?

be careful what you ask for... you might end up standing and waiting for your name to be called only to realize you were already called several times
at least if they do call out lorna you can check if it's yours immediately
i remember when they were calling out jeef, they've been calling my name out several times and i didn't know it was mine haha

Coffeeshops almost always get my name right. It's this fastfood joint that does not give out numbers in the first place (which other fastfood joints do) that almost always calls me Lorna. Oh, wait I remember one time, I was booking at a hotel and I said 'my name is gloria. As in Gloria Diaz, Gloria Romero, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.' (That was to give an emphasis) Person on the other line says, O I see. Then she says, So, Ms. Gloria Diaz, what room would you like to get? WTF?
Maybe this is a veeerrry young girl who hasn't heard of Ms. GD, so I forgive her.
Ah, but, nothing beats Jeef, or Chit, or Chi, or whatever.
Just go ahead with Bob. So you won't have to guess what name it is this time that they heard. Right, Bob?

Nice to know there's another "celebrity" here.
Well, the reason I said those three names is because the girl kept saying "Lorna", so I had to emphasize "Gloria". And so that is what I got.

hi chip lo that was easy. I know what you mean as I have b een called Mrs. Hartley, hadley, hately and Hardly while my real name is Patsie Hatley, not Patty Hartley or Hadley or Harty but Patsie Hatley. so I have said think of hat with a ley on it and patsie a pat with a sie on it. still the morning guy who passes out our medications calls me Mrs. Hartley. I told hium ten times myname is Hatley just plain Hat ley hatley. So now maybe I will tell him my name is wonder woman that should be more memorable. hope you finally get them to call you by chipo orn Chester instead of all the other garbage.

I am sorry you had to go through it...blah, blah, blah...etc.etc.
But secretly, I am glad that I am not the only one.
I get that everyday, everywhere, except in my home state. I do understand it is a different and well, sort of difficult if you are not from my place. It does sure feel nice when someone do get it right. But alas! those are very rare.
Even when I fill a form, capitalise everything, they still type it wrong sometimes.
