I'm just going to wave when I see you stuck in the ditch.

I usually stop & help whenever I see a motorist in trouble but frankly I'm tired of peoples stupidity. Yesterday we got hit with another winter storm which turned the roads into a slushy mess. Personally I have an all wheel drive Subaru which does quite well in such conditions which is one of the reasons we bought it. Even so I still slow down when weather & road conditions make it necessary. Yet it seems nobody else around here thinks they should. They blow past us throwing up a rooster tail of slush on us
& are then soooo surprised when they end up in a ditch.
You know what, I'm not stopping to help this time. Enjoy the cold walk & tow bill.

Yeah, you just can't fix "stupid". I don't know why people think they are not in danger when they drive crazy like that. When I lived in the desert we had the same thing--it would rain, the washes would flood and idiots would try to ford them in their cars and either get stuck or swept away. Eventually they passed the "stupid motorist law" that makes the pay the cost of rescue if they enter a flooded wash!
Maybe states with snow should make a similar law.
My neighbor is an insurance adjuster and I asked him the other day if it was busy and he said no, people are going too slow. So I guess there are some intelligent people!

People have accused me of all kinds of awful things when I bring that up. It would certainly improve the world if we could cull the gene pool a little!

I know what you mean...
Granted, I don't live in a place with a whole lot of severe/icy weather, but when I saw the truck in front of me on Friday hit an icy patch and swerve and spin out of control, well, all I could do was stay out of the way and laugh because THEY were the idiots who got ON the ice, they were the idiots who decided to change directions abruptly, they were the idiots who put their brakes on...
So, I agree, if they can't control their car, maybe a long cold walk and a hefty towing charge will teach them to slow down!

A lot of people are getting stuck in this surprisingly relentless winter weather. I've gotten stuck myself. And, generally, I wouldn't be so hard on the person who finds themselves unable to move their car. But, if they are totally disregarding their own safety, and the safety of others, by driving recklessly.. that's another story. Hopefully, they will learn from their mistake.

Well, that's not always the case though..You don't know if ALL people stuck in a ditch were driving like maniacs despite the weather - it could have been something else. I know I've gotten stuck a few times when we had our big snow storm in MN - and gosh - SO many people stopped and helped! And I was being a very very cautious/tenative driver that day. I would hate if these people hadn't stopped just because they thought it was 'my fault' for driving 'crazy' at the time (which I totally wasn't).Yanno?

Especially in the winter months, more caare and caution need to be taken of the road conditions. sometimes drivers think they are invincible. those are the drivers whose cars you will find immobilized. Even though their own actions cause their misfortunes, I couldn't leave someone stranded at the roadside. i would still offer to help them. @LaDeBoheme (2004)

Oh yeah, makes you wonder sometimes -- did they pick up their driver's license on sale at Walmart?
Yeppers, I agree, let them the slide into the ditch, but the ones that worry me are the ones that want to slide into ME!
