Have you ever used what you learned in self-defense class in real life?

Hi everyone! I recently tried out a free seminar on a particular martial art that I've really wanted to do. It's a pretty nice and practical kind of self-defense that even women can do (because the martial art itself was created by a woman). In these times, danger is just around the corner and it helps a lot to be prepared. Have you ever taken a self-defense class and did it come to a point that you faced danger and had to use what you've learned in class? I enjoyed the free seminar so much that I'm looking forward to the classes...but I do hope I won't have to use it because I'm confronting danger, ever. Have a nice day!

a Robber tried to stab me, I broke his arm, he run away, I was a taekwondo and Aikido black belt but I haven't been practicing since I got my Job, I'm in fear i cant apply it anymore. if i have time , i will try to study Krav maga, its an Israeli martial and it is said to be the most practical martial art ever because its easy to learn and apply.

I've seen Krav Maga on Discovery Channel's Fight Quest. It sure is practical and targets the most vulnerable parts of the opponent.

Taekwondo, karate and Kung-fu is hard to make applicable in real life if you are darn nervous because your life is in danger,In Krav Maga you can defeat your opponent even if he is stronger than you, the techniques are more practical and its easy to learn.

Yes, and I was not even expecting to do it... I was talking on the cell phone to my sisters bf my sister and I were lost.. I took a step right towards my sister as this person tried to grab my cell... next I know I bumped into my sister by accident then the man was in my face hand around my hand reaching in his pocket for something.. as He refused to let go after I told him too.. and clearly said no! no! .. He then reached for me with his other arm.. So After bouncing off bumping my sister again by accident I went into a move where you bounce off another person cept in the real move you are elbowing the threat right of and then left of you.. But I did not elbow my sister of course but used the move and elbowed that man knocked the wind of him as he was on the ground crying for me not to kill him... I said if you if go now and get away from here and stay away from the people here... I won't.. I of course had no intentions of killing anyone but that man took off running my sister and I reported it to the bar that this happened in front of.. but I was so smooth with it the guy on the phone I kept talking to he is like what? .. go now and I just might not what? ... as he asked why the guy was begging not be killed ... I felt like I was a little rougher than I needed to be in that case, but as least I got the guy off me and he left me alone.. the scariest part of martial arts and self defense is when the action comes without thought like that. You really get nervous about accidentally seriously hurting someone..

That's great that you were able to protect your sister from the perpetrator. I hope he learned his lesson...and I think he learned it hard. I'm thinking about it, what if a person's self-defense skills is very great that the person defending himself might accidentally kill the perpetrator? Hmm... Thanks for sharing!
