Hai, Numper portability of mobile phones has been started, and have any one changed your brands? I have requested to change one of my DOCOMO sim to bsnl. but it took 42 rupee. I dont know why the rate is like this, it may be because of the offer they provide. here in kerala, BSNL welcomes the NUMBER PORTABILITY customers with some exiting offer 100 rupee talktime, 500mb free internet, and lifelong free call to one bsnl landline(the landline should be in your name). unfortunately, the landline is in my fathers name, so i will not be able to get the third offer. BSNL gave me new SIM card, and they told me it will take around ten days to get activated, till then you can use the old sim. Now its 5th day after i submitted the documents regarding ID proof and photo, today i got the message that from 2mrw onwards my BSNL sim will be active Have you tried the Number Portability???

I have been using bsnl for a while. I am not going to use the number portability thing because if i do that then the balance in my prepaid account will be zero as i switch to another service provider.Even though bsnl has lots and lots of towers the service is not really that good.I get disconnected from network every now and then.I havent used any other network so i cant say how good other network providers would be.

you can switch to airtel, thats a good option. you can use your balance in your account and ask for portability after finishing the balance.

I'm from Australia but mobile phone portability over here is very easily done and is totally free. I think all the major mobile network providers offer mobile number portability. I have only done it once because I wanted to keep an existing number and it was not a hassle at all. I did it when activating a new sim card online, they just asked me in the form if I wanted to keep an existing number I had and so I ticked yes and it was all done for me. It seems more complicated in India that's for sure. And it's not even free? I think once many providers offer this service then maybe it will become free. I'm thinking if in the future one provider offers it for free then others will follow to be competitive with the first provider. Hopefully, it works out for you soon.

In India it was not even possible in last year. it has just been launched. here number portability have to undergo some formalities and have a small amount as fee.

Hello Venkit, Why you are using the number portability, your docomo is not working properly in your place. I think BSNL is more popular in your area. Currently I am using airtel and its net work coverage is good. Somebody told me that TATA is having more coverage, they are getting the net works from this service provider when in basement and airtel is not working at basements (lower ground floor). Anyway I don’t have any plan to change the service provider in near future. My connection is for lifetime and I have the lower STD call rate too. I think the number portability will change all those and I have to pay for all these to the new service provider again. So I felt keeping the same service provider is good for me.

I want to try it but someone told me that for that we will have to switch our sim off for 7 days . Also one more question is that is it also available in the CDMA sets . Because if its available in CDMA sets then what is the use of CDMA anymore , already they are extincting , and now may be they will vanish.

ya its available on CDMA also, and if we wish to switch from CDMA to GSM sim, then we have to buy new GSM handset and our CDMA handset will be useless. If you do prtability, you will not loss you calls for 7 days, but will lost for 1 day, actually i didnt lost my calls even for a single day.

Hi Venkit, I have not tried it yet.I am using AIRTEL service which is excellent and the signals are available even in rural areas. There are no signal problems with AIRTEL.I am glad to use it till now and I won't be going for another.BSNL doesn't has good signal like AIRTEL.Not only in BSNL some exciting offers are available but also in other services.I have heard that AIRTEL and AIRCEL are the best communication networks. In Tamil Nadu Airtel and Aircel are very famous for their services. Have a happy day.
