Credit history help from Aussies please

I have been going through old paperwork that I haven't even looked at since I moved from Mackay 2 1/2 years ago & I have found a couple of old bills that haven't yet been paid so I know they will be black marks on my credit file...in amoungst those bills is 1 that is over 5 years old 
...I know that once they are over 5 years oold, they are no longer on your credit file but I was wondering if it's still possible to pay the bill?? I do know that paying the bill DOES bring it back onto your credit history but I also know that it would show up as being paid...Does anyone know if this bill can still be paid?

Your guess is as good as mine...I know it is in old mobile phone bill...I am guessing that I had stopped using that number & has switched to pre pay when I moved & packed up the bill...I do know I no longer have an account with them & it's not showing up on my credit history so I don't know what to do other than tearing the bill up & forgetting about it.

Surely it will only show up on your credit history if the creditor took legal action to try and recover the debt? Thats the case in the UK and I suppose that it's the same in Oz as well. I'd suggest that you ask for a copy of your credit history to see what if anything is on it relating to these old debts.

I have just recently obtained an updated copy of my credit history & this is what got me to open up an old box of paper work to throw out old paid bills, & see what else was in there that could be tossed or filed (I'm also trying to declutter too). This is how I found this 8 year old bill...it doesn't show on my credit history because it is over 5 years old.
