Do you always get zapped in the winter?

We have very dry air in the winter here is Mass. I get zapped all the time when I touch things and I hate it so much... I get zapped when I take the clothes out of the dryer; I get zapped when I touch the light switches; I get zapped when I touch my doggie... I even get zapped when I close the car door when I get out of the car??? I hate it, it is not painful but I don't like the feeling of it... you know what I do now, I put a plastic bag in my pocket, I use that as gloves when I touch the light switches... I know I sound a little crazy but it's true... What do you think about this? mDo you mind getting zapped? Does it bother you?[em]glare[/em]

This use to happen to me all the time when we had carpet and it was winter. After removing the carpet I have not had this happen any longer. I believe it has to do with the dryness in the air. Could be.

And also the dust that gets trapped in the carpet

I get zapped all the time when I'm fixing appliances. I don't like it because they say it's bad for the heart. I always liked to fix electric wires, for example connecting them to another appliance. I get zapped mostly everytime.

I used to always get zapped! I found out that if I didn't go walking around in my socks, and put my slippers on (or shoes) I hardly ever get zapped anymore lol. Evidently when you have socks with a synthetic fiber in it, and walk on carpeting, the friction between the two produces a whole lot more static electricity. Is your winter coat made with sythetic fibers, or your hat and gloves? The act of putting them on over other synthetic stuff, like a sweater or shirt, can also produce static electricity. I also notice that when I keep extra humidity in the rooms, it lessens it too. I keep a small little metal container by the register and keep it filled with water. With the clothes dryer, I add about a teaspoon of fabric softener onto a clean washcloth and throw it in. I know the directions call for a lot of softener, but I find just a tad works just as well and it a whole lot cheaper too (and I buy the Dollar Store version.) I absolutely HATE getting zapped, and doing it that way I can honestly say I haven't been zapped even once this winter lol. Just to mention, since you're having a problem with it...I hope you touch something else before you touch your computer. My brother, a computer tech, said I should always do that so it doesn't wreck anything if I have a static buildup.

Oh yes, it sure destroys computer stuff. Had many customers who bought peripherals wanting to assemble PCs by themselves but came back complaining I gave them faulty stuffWhat a shame, didn't even had the basic knowledge on discharging electrostatic & came back blamingHahaha!~

I always get zapped, does that mean my body always build up lots of statis electric energy?

I find that I get zapped no matter what the weather is! Yesterday it happened a few times as I got out of the car, I don’t know what causes it...Shopping carts do it to me too...I wonder if it has something to do with what I am wearing at the time or whether some people are more prone to the ‘zap’ than others...

I get zapped when I'm changing clothes and petting my poor kitties! They get zapped as well. Not a problem as long as I am not touching their nose when it happens! When I remember, I put some water on to make steam. It helps a little. The shock comes from dry air. Weird though, the humidity is usually high here no matter what. I guess maybe the heat must take out some of the moisture, though I have steam radiators.

When I pert my doggie, I get zapped too, poor thing, my hsuband says it is because his nose is cold and dry haha but I don't think he feels a thing When my hands are very moistured, it's better but when my hands are dry, itg gets worse!

Most of the time the kitties do not feel it, but once in awhile there is a huge shock and the poor dears look at me strangely and run off! I probably need to put more lotion on to prevent the poor babies from being zapped. I should put some water on the stove to steam because it is one of those nights again.

it could be caused by static electricity when you dried your clothes in the dryer do you use bounce?

Hi. mermaidivy. I have gotten zapped/shocked many of times. Especially when I open up the car door. It is very annoying. I just am so glad that I am not electrocuted. I wonder where these strange currents are coming from. I hope that you will never get shocked from these zaps. Stay safe!

Oh I hate that when I open and close the car door, I don't rub against anything when I leave the car but I still get zapped hard...

Argh!!!em]angry[/em] I hate electrostatic, but it sometimes does give us a "wake-up" call, haha!~One of our greatest enemy for computer assemblies & repairs is this culprit called ESD. Here's a link on ESD: http://www.siliconfareast.com/esd.htm

I can remember how intriguing it was a child when the dry winter air gave off a lot of static electricity. Humidifiers seemed to help, but took away some of that experience. I still think of those moments when those rare occasions still happen to me.

hello mermaidivy, There is a guy I work with at night who is always get zapped and sometimes they really hurt. He cannot help it and tries not to get to him but you can it on his face they are not cool. I get it sometimes but you are right during the winter it is worse for a lot people. I try not scuff my feet and he has a problem walking and scuff or shuffles his feet but it the way his legs work and I think why he gets more of them. I even get them from plastic too. People thought you could not zapped from plastic but rest a sure you can. Thanks and have a great night Sincerely unqiue16
