Are humans still evolving?

We all get told about how we descended from apes or whatever, and evolved to stand upright, be physically fit and able to cope with certain things, and it's the same with animals. I just wondered if humans are still evolving? I mean...humans have looked the same for a long time now so that leads me to think that we'll stay this way. I started thinking this because I heard about a disease caused by long periods of time spent sitting down. The average person is sitting for 56 hours a week, and it's making people really unwell. So I thought...will our bodies adapt at all,To this? Or are we finished adapting? If this is a really stupid question, or really obvious, sorry.

i don't believe on evolution. humans don't evolve. in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He created everything within six days. He created us in his likeness and in His image. God created us to work and to take care of His creation. God is not created by someone else, He is outside in time, He is eternal and lives forever and ever.

Humans apparently ARE evolving and at an exponentially faster rate than before. The races are diverging as well due to different environments. Here is an article that discusses human adaptations relating to our brains, digestive systems, life span, sperm production and more. Scientists are afraid to be too public about it because we aren't supposed to notice differences in races. Whatever. Also, how about the ape that walked totally upright at the (San Diego?) zoo? He didn't have an apish waddle either, not at all. And baby chimps play with sticks like doll babies. Well, the girls do, the boy chimps play fight with sticks instead! Evolution and adaptation everywhere!

I believe we have adapted as much as we are going to, although there is the possibility of the human race getting taller, and we may adapt to our more sedentary lifestyles...it will take years before these changes are noticeable. There are no stupid questions, and we may not even have all the answers.

i believe yes we are evolving but possibly we are going to be formed as with technology changing these days i believe life form is on the verge

If there is one thing I observed, I think people are getting taller at least in my country, well I was considered tall during my generation but I had observed that more and more younger people are getting taller, even my 14 year old son is now taller than me, just not sure if this is because of diet, genetics or maybe people really are evolving. So this generation now that are considered tall might not be tall in the next generations to come , not so sure what height increase has got to do with adoptation

I think that we are still evolving. We are also affected by other things besides our jobs like the surroundings. The environment now is filled with pollution that we might evolve into something worse in the future.

yes!that would be my answer people evolving though we dont notice, but sorry for i do not agree that people evolve from apes to modern human genre. coz the how will the angels merry human that so beautiful for them if they only from apes. okay back to the topic people evolved now still and continuously evolving depends on the environment, like most people how easy for them to stay in the coldest and people live having a genius mind...

Yes, mankind is evolving still. Just wait until genetic manipulation gets going. Lots of changes are just around the corner.

Define me "a long time" 2010 years isnt a long time. Neither 5000 years . But yes, we keep evolving.. The living conditions on this earth makes the evolution. If we didn't evolve in the past, we wouldnt exist now. And this happened with lots of animals. The Earth changed a lot since its beggining. And thats we evolve (we get used to it).

Now days, in this generation, many people(human beings) are want more money, more comfortable. And drinking is the main cause in this society. Actually i not drinking, i hate it, although i tell "i am not a drinker" no body in a position to believe it. Food:- people are mostly concentrating on food, people showing interest in eating the foreign foods. have a niceday. god bless you.

I think in the course of tens of thousands, perhaps millions of years, the cycle repeats., evolution ... involution. There They were super-civilization, lost knowledge,we involution, evolve now, when we reach the apogee, probably something will happen, and it comes and at involution .. and I think that all this happens with a little help from elsewhere ...

I say yes. Sedentary life style has really taken its toll. People are getting bigger and bigger. The food availability has evolved and it made a lot of changes to humans as well. Obesity is of the major concern. Another thing is, people tend to be taller now. I am considered tall in our place but the people younger than me tends to be taller. However, I think that the best thing that has evolved is intelligence. Kids now tend to become smarter. Their abilities has also improved.

We are constantly adapting to our environment. We used to be shorter, much shorter as little as 500 years ago! Our bones are denser, stronger, we are just learning about our brains and how much or how little of them we actually use on a daily basis. There are so many changes that are so small we don't even realize they are happening. If a virus, a single cell creature with no life force of it's own, can evolve, change, adapt, how much more so must we be doing so? It's taken millennia for us to become what we see in our mirrors today, it'll take more millennia for the changes we are just at the beginning of now to be noticeable and even then who'll there be to notice because the changes happened so slowly. Some say evolution isn't real, they will deny the evidence that is before us all in the form of fossils and the leftovers from ancient cultures. Yet there is no contradiction between the two because as every builder knows first you lay a foundation and prepare the earth to receive what you are about to place upon it and for that item to begin to grow. The concept of us descending from apes is incorrect, apes and humans may have had a common ancestor, but some where in our respective evolutions the two species split each going a different direction. Personally I think the apes had it figured out. They foresaw that we'd all be paying taxes and they opted out.

I think thats the point of life. Joyous expansion, and while people strive to do more and more and create more and more, they will continue to expand themselves and those around them. People are constantly in a state of wanting things. Just wanting something gives rise to an expansion within oneself. It will always be there so the human race will continue to expand.
