Can Raina get a place in playing eleven for the first match?

It appears Raina will have to sit out for the first match India plays in the world cup. By the recent form of the players, apart from those whose places are more or less sealed in the team, Raina does not seem to have a place in the side at least for the first match. The team as per the batting order is likely to be: Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Yusuf, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Zaheer, Munaf nad Nehra. Raina is too good a player in Indian condition to be left out. He may have to capitalize on the first opportunity he gets to cement his place in the side but that will be at the cost of Yuvraj or Kohli. There will be lot of pressure to perform whoever gets a chance to play in the first match. What is your take on this?

I think it is very tough decision for the selector committee to choose 11 best diamond among the 15 best diamond. I agree he failed to perform good innings in the last series against south Africa but i want to remind you suresh raina is very hard heater especially in the indian sub continents he perform terrific awesome and world cup is happening in the indian sub continents only so it will good for indian team if suresh bhai is in the squad. If i'm there in the selector committee then i will definitely pick suresh for the squad..

Dear Siliguri, I do realize that Raina is a hard hitter of the cricket ball. But, a team should be of a good mix of people, who can do various things. We already have hard hitters in Yousuf Pathan, Dhoni and Sehwag. If the team comprises only of hard hitters, we might get out thought....!!!! Right now we seem to have a right mix. Let us hope it works. Share your views Balu.

I share your views siliguri but at the moment Raina has no place in the team. He may get the place if Yuvraj or Kohli fails to deliver. On the present form I think Raina has to sit out. But I am sure given the opportunity he will capitalize on it.

Dear Msdivkar, Raina is a good player. But, the world cup being the most important event in cricket, we should always play the best players. Raina was given enough chances in the one day internationals against South Africa. And plenty of times he was in situations where the match was in fine balance. I have to say, on all those occasions, he threw his wicket away. Every one gets out, but throwing one's wicket away "consistently", is an attribute that can be associated with Raina. No doubt that he is a good player in Indian conditions, but we need players who would stick it out in the middle. Right now, honestly the team looks pretty good. Or at least the batting line looks pretty good. The bowling... we will see, how it goes. But it looks alright too.. For me, Raina earned his spot in the bench, because of his temperament. Hope he learns to control and apply it to good use in the future. In a way it is always good to have good players in the waiting. We can always have players to fall back on, in case of emergency... Yes the team can be judged by its bench strength. Raina's throwing of his wicket in S.A. was his weakness against fast bouncing ball. In Indian conditions he would have never been out playing the same shot against the same baller. I don't advocate for his inclusion in the side at the moment but just expressed my feelings for the talented man. As you rightly pointed out, such a man on the bench is a warning to those playing to perform or face the axe.

the team is set.all the injured lions have returned.if raina did half the work kohli did when given chance,he might have thrown out yuvi out of the team. but as rightly said he has given away his wickets in the silliest fashion in the last few matches. pretty much how sehwag played before the 2008 T20 world cup.careless batting. may be he should do what sreesanth did to get into the team. pray. may be he will play

I too think that the line up mentioned by you will be the probable choice of captain Dhoni too.Taking into account of Raina's recent performances in the ODIs it will be like a bit of gambling to include him in the playing eleven.Of course Raina is a very talented player, but the thing to be considered is all about the world cup.World cup is not a place to take risks.

He is very good player and no one is better than in terms of playing middle order. therefore, he is likely to be chosen in first match. Moreover, he has ability to play well when team needs. Also it is truth that there are so many players that cannot be neglected while getting them into the eleven. But there are chances of virat kohli being out from the team in first match.
