Wisconsin State Employees Whine, but never said Thank You

Gov. Scott Walker has announced that he is submitting legislation that would end collective bargaining for state employees in everything except pay. Of course, this has the union thugs crying in their cornflakes and state workers whining that they might have to (gasp) pay for part of their medical benefits. The thing is, while private sector jobs were disappearing; and pay and benefits concessions were being reluctantly accepted by private sector union members, the state employees have seen generous pay and benefit increases over the last 8 years. As private sector pay and benefits got smaller, state taxes skyrocketed to cover the extra costs. The criminal former Gov. Doyle raided all sorts of special funds to hand them over to the teachers union as well as others. In all the time these pay and benefits packages were increasing, we never heard a single word of appreciation from the unions or the state employees. All we heard were demands for more.... Now that the people have voted the criminals out, those who benefitted from the criminal actions are whining that they might have to actually live like the rest of us. WAH!

Federal employees are whining, too. I saw an interview with the head of their union that was complaining the it's not their fault the economy is as it is and why should they have to suffer for it? When the host pointed out that fed employees make about twice as much as the same job in the private sector he denied it. It went on and on with the moaning and whining till I fast forwarded out of it. Unions haven't done anything constructive for years--worse, they've stolen from pension funds and are now expecting us to bail them out.

They do make a lot more money, but that's only part of it. Those overpaid federal employees also get far better insurance and pensions than private sector employees which probably makes it more than double if you factor it in.

I don't think any government employee should belong to a union beyound the local level. More states should do what New Jersey is doing and contract out those services that can be contracted and eliminate those positions that can be eliminated. It does not make sense to pay a person $15.00 to $20.00 per hours and give them full Health Insurance and a pension when that person is going to be doing housekeeping. You could contract with a private company for the same services for less money. It is nice to get paid more than the going rate for a similar job in the private sector.

Yeah the State Employee Unions didn't make nearly as many concessions as the Union I am a of member did. I still don't have to pay for medical benefits but have to wait a year before I get them and a pay increase. I am only 2 months away from getting health insurance and a pay raise. I am still doing better than a lot of my friends are because of the contract that I am on and because I am a Union Member. I fully support the ability for workers to Unionize to protect themselves from unsafe working conditions and other issues. I also believe though that as Employees of a company we also have to think of the well being of the company because they are the ones who pay us and gave us the jobs that we hold in the first place. I can tell you that I work my you know what off at my job and I enjoy it because I am working. Even if they do make some concessions in there next contract it would still keep state workers at a pretty good state as most Union contracts have grandfather clauses in them so the people that where hired under the last contract don't lose a single thing. At least that is how I know it to work in the Private Sector Union Contracts.
