What are weekends for?

I remember when I was child, on weekends we had to clean the house, rake leaves, mow the yard, etc. The only thing we did on as a family was go to Sunday breakfast and this was once in a great moon. Most stores are area weren't even open on the weekends. Now everything is open and people can shop from dusk til dawn. I work harder at home in two days than I ever do at work. I would rather work sometimes just so I can rest. What are your weekends for? What did you do as a kid on weekends? Have weekend really changed this much or is it just me?

I grew up on a small farm, there was always something that needed to be done. I dug holes for fence posts with a piece of equipment that used 'man power', I cut trees with an ax, putting up hay every summer and of course feeding it through the winters...always something going on...yet I found time to read, instead of a shower, 20 minutes in a bathtub, a soak, read a few pages and a quick wash helped me finish War and Peace... I spent over 20 years of my life driving a semi truck over the road, I was either filling with fuel, eating, driving, doing paper work, loading, unloading, or sleeping...and I still found time to read, half an hour before sleep, while I ate my dinner or breakfast, phone calls to friends and family while I searched for my next load or while waiting my turn to load or unload. I spent 30 days at a time away from home and family, then took four days to spend with family, friends and to finish projects in my 100 year old house, then back to work. The four days were family time, time to clean the house, catch up on laundry, cook the home made meals I so looked forward to, and move my kitchen yet again, until it was where I originally wanted it. The family participated in the home remodeling projects, we had fun, so much fun my children today can't seem to live in a house without changing it in some way, making improvements. Things I've learned. If there is something you really want to do, you CAN find the time. Family is just happy to be with you, it doesn't matter what you all are doing. Meals can be the best time to keep in touch, it seems it's the one time a day where everyone is together, if not, make it so. Sometimes it just takes some adjusting, rearranging of the times you do things, or multi-tasking a pleasurable activity with a work activity.

My husband drove truck for about 10 years over the road. I know what you're talking about. Gone 4-6 weeks at a time and home for only 2-4 days. I absolutely hated it when he had to leave again. He now works local. It's a lot nicer for us. We don't have kids. So we spend as much time together as we can. My grandparents own a 10 acres and during the summer I would stay with them for a month and help out on the farm. I don't admire anyone who had to do it everyday.

Some days I miss the truck, it was actually quite peaceful going down the road at 3:00 am. I intend to go back to farming, it wasn't all work and I made pets out of at least one of each kind of animal... When I was young I thought all the work on the farm was in the way of having fun, today I realize how many advantages it gave me...exercise, working muscles that even today are still reasonably tight, it taught me that hard work doesn't hurt as much as no work. I now know that growing our own food gave me a better diet than I might otherwise have enjoyed, and my food tasted better than what I can buy in the store today. I guess farming is for those who love it and it takes a certain kind of person to do that, just like trucking isn't for everyone, it takes special people to move a nation and keep it employed.

I remembered that as a kid I had several friends and we played together a lot of fun games, like TV games, climbing mountains, going to a video game bar. Now we got jobs and there aren't many creation centers for us to have fun. On weekends, we have two days off, may go out and see around the city.

You still hangout with the same people that you hungout with as a kid. That's impressive. Usually, people lose contact after school.

Hello mate, For me, weekends are all for me to sit back and relax and have a lazy day for myself! But then, I will even go back and search for those old books which I once read and cherish those moments again. Then, listen to those old songs which was once my favorite track! Weekends are the only days that I have a little time for myself! I just love those weekends which is a heaven in my room for a day scenario! :) Cheers! :) Good day!

I enjoy relaxing and reading good book when I get the chance. There's just something peaceful about reading books. You just lose all concerns and concentrate on the story in hand.

Exactly, thats what I actually meant! I always lose myself into the book when I am reading the book. Even if I am reading the book for the 10th time, I'm into the same feel that I had when I had while reading the first time! Cheers! :)

Where i work very hard on weekdays and do not get much time to rest with my friends and family. I love just chilling out on weekends and doing the odd jobs and activities that i have not got time for on weekdays. I try to do as little as possible on weekends but i always like relaxing and coming on mylot to do a bit of posting. I also work a little bit on getting referrals like putting up posters or sticking my labels in places. It keeps me busy and i know that i will be rewarded some day. :)

I enjoy coming to mylot and post too. I really like responding peoples questions, remarks and thoughts. Even if I don't get reward financially, I'm rewarded mentally. I have started coming on mylot daily just to see what's happening.

Yes, I would image you work every day just to get the project done on time. Do you get hired by smaller companies online or do you freelance in your community?

To me the weekends is an attempt to relax. Granted a lot of weekends, there just seems to be some leftover work that I need to do. So that intention is really often misplaced when you think about it. By the time I get everything in a row, all of those little chores done, the weekend is just pretty much all over and the cycle really continued. And it was really the same when I was young, because my teachers had this bad habit of assigning homework for over the weekend. Despite the fact that half of the students rarely got it done. Yet they seem surprised that half of the class never got homework done. They never really did to the point that the weekend is supposed to for relaxation. Yet when you think about it, that does rarely seem to be the case to begin with.

I remember getting homework assignment on the weekend also. I think teachers tried to sabatoge a student's gpa. Unfortunately, there was always those students that got it done and ruined for the rest of us.

I remember when I was a child, I help in the chores afterwhich I spend my free time playing with our neighbor's kids and watching TV. What I hate about weekends then, was taking naps in the afternoon. But now, things changed. I really love the weekends because I can catch up on my sleep. I prefer to stay at home and spend my time with my son. We do some arts like painting, coloring or writing. Play with board games like snakes and ladders. Read his books. Sometimes, when my husband brings home his laptop, we play computer games. We also sometimes watch cartoons together. Most of my time is spent on my son since we hardly devote enough time for him on work days. When I am not busy with my son, what I do for myself on a weekend at home is reading romantic novels in bed.

In my weekends I try to relax as much as I can. Sleep longer than usual and walk in the nature or something like that. When I was younger I used to sleep the whole week or just play with my friends.

For me, weekends give me the pleasure of relaxing and enjoying without the pressures of work. Even if I just have a movie marathon all day, I don't feel guilty. However, this used to be the case. Now, I find myself using my weekends to earn extra income online, and it's fine with me. I don't mind watching less or relaxing less because I get to have earnings even on weekends.

I like to listen to the tv and do computer work at the same time. I get my fill of both daily.

Cleaning the house together would be a novelty at my house. My husband will ask if he could move his feet. (HA, HA) He will take out the trash if I asked him. I just find it quicker to do it myself. It nice to hear that people still have family time these days.

Yes, I remember those days. When I had no worries, our parents had to deal with the major issues. All I had to worry about was finding playmates. Those were the days. Best Wishes!

For me , weekends are for relaxation and refreshing. I have a full time job which takes so many hours each day. By the time I get back home in the evening, it can be close to 9 pm on some days, totally tired and exhuasted. I just keep waiting for the weekend to arrive. "Thank God it is Friday" is the popular saying.

I could probably relax if I hired a maid and someone to take care of my husband. Of course, I think he would miss my smiling face and I would have to clean my house before the maid came over. Sounds like you have a hectic life. I hope this isn't an every week occurance.

I have been so busy with my college school work and have really been under a lot of stress. It has affected my health to the point where all I want to do is sleep. My husband seems to think it is easy going to school, cleaning house, trying to make extra money and cooking. I keep on telling him it is not easy, but all we do is argue. This weekend I have to go grocery shopping, go over to Lowes and look at bath tubs, then I get to come home and clean house so tomorrow I can work on a project for school. My weekends used to consist of relaxing on Sunday and spending time with my husband, but lately that has not been the case. I have been thinking about going on strike at home and having my husband take care of everything for a week and see if he sings a different tune afterwards.

I know exactly what you're going through. I went to college & worked fulltime for 5 years. I still had to cook, clean and I also tutored in accounting. I had a full schedule. Men just don't understand how hard it is. I can honestly say, I don't think a man has tried all these tasks at the same time. Just letting them take care of the house for a week could turn out to be a disaster and more work in the long run. If you know what I mean. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR COLLEGE. What are you studying?

As a kid on the weekend id do what ever i could fit into 2 days before having to go to school again. Id go play in the mud outside, play with my dogs, see alot of friends. But life is VERY different for me. Im a mum of 2, engaged and live with my partner. I now have a family home to look after and alot of people to care for so no more playing in the mud for me.

It's amazing how life changes when you get older. Sounds like things are going well for you. I wish you and your partner a happy life together. I think you could still play in the mud with you children some time. They would really love that.

Basically, we have things in common with weekends. The work does not stop since you do all the cleaning and washing on these days. You may go out to have fun with the family but for only a couple of hours. In the end, you just have to still keep on moving to prepare for work on Monday. You may not have lots of rest on weekends but it will still be fun since you will be with your family.
