Why do people ask if Vegetarians eat sea-food?

I have been a vegetarian for nearly half a year now, and I find myself surprised whenever people ask about my diet. It's as if they have never even heard of a vegetarian before, let alone met one. They ask me if I eat sea food, imitation sea food, and food that was made with animals but has no meat (such as ramen noodles). They even ask me what the difference is between vegans and vegetarians! Before I even thought of becoming a veggie, I knew what a vegan was. I also know that there are many different types of vegetarians, and some people call themselves one even if they only restrain from eating certain types of meat. Still, as a whole, aren't most vegetarians the same? I'm sure that most of us practice the same restrictions and eat similar foods. Why are people so ignorant of these lifestyles?

I guess because there are so many different types of vegetarians, I don't eat meat but I do eat fish some people don't eat red meat but they eat fish and chicken, so I guess they are jusy interested in you and what sort of vegetarian you are...
