Remake of a classic movie or a New Movies using a similar plot?

It seems that we are getting many remakes of a classic movie, "True Grit" being the latest that change the stars and usually adds more special effects. Do you like these movies or do you like a movie that takes the same theme and plot but but changes the interaction between the main characters and gives new twists to the movie. Many people thought "Sleepless in Seattle" and "An Affair to Remember" was such a movie. Another movie that comes to mind is "Rooster Cogburn" and the "African Queen". To me it seems like the producers are more concerned with recasting a classic and saving money rather than have someone come up with a new movie. What do you think makes a better movie a remake or a rewritten Classic Movie?
