Scams Are Appearing On "Respected" Job Sites Now!

I am so fed up. Finding work is hard enough without (very nearly) being scammed. On the Total Jobs website is an ING advert. I won't go into the details as it is elaborate and originates (supposedly) from the HO in the Netherlands. It all looked promising, until I recieved an email today from a dubious-looking email address AND they wanted my bank account details as I'd be paid for the "training!" John was suspicious and he had every right to be as it turned out to be an elaborate scam from people masquerading as ING employees. They offer "training" whereby money is paid into MY bank account. Being paid for training? I think not! It's just a way of them getting hold of someone's bank account. Needless to say, I haven't gone down that route. I have emailed Total Jobs and demanded they take down ALL ING ads as I bet they will all be scams. It's the lowest of the low for people to behave in this way, don't you agree?

I wish there was a way to shut all these kinds of operations down, but as fast as they shut one down, another pops up in Nigeria or.... So all we can do is investigate, investigate, investigate and never give our account numbers, etc. to anyone. I've been scammed once looking for "work". While I made some money, I lost more than I made. Not going there again...

It's so frustrating..and the scams are becoming more and more elaborate. I have no doubt that people have been scammed by this. If it wasn't for my husband going "Hang on a minute!" I probably would've got scammed myself. My problem is I'm too trusting and I bet I'm not the only one.

Yeah, I'm way too trusting, and even after being had, I'm still too trusting. My brother, sister and my mother always tell me that. I'm not as bad as I use to be, but I still give most people the benefit of the doubt. But with telemarketers, etc., I'm getting over it...

Are you an Aries like me? Many of us tend to be trusting..maybe TOO trusting but I'd rather be like that than not believe anything someone is telling me..er, I think!

Wow! It's good that you figured it was a scam! That's definitely low. People that find it on supposedly legitimate job hunting sites should report it to the site administrators. If he administrators don't act on it it only means that they are in on it right? Whenever I receive something asking for my bank account, I always delete it anyway

It should really make everyone wary when people start asking for your bank account... It's interesting to know that neither ING nor TJ replied to your notice. Hmmm... they may be trying to cover up their @$$3$!

Since I last posted on this discussion I have received a reply to my email..but only the one I sent to Total Jobs, NOT ING, which is interesting, don't you think? Anyway, Total Jobs are aware of this "phishing" scam to give it its proper term and they've taken them all down. How they got there in the first place isn't clear though.

It can certainly be very dangerous out there. We simply cannot be too careful. I hate the scams but they are so good at hiding in legitimate places. That's why they are effetive. I figure there must be some way to regulate them. I don't know though. The internet is getting so big and more difficult to legislate and manage. I guess we have to go back to old school thinking on this one - used to be that one bad or dissatisfied customer could cost a business a lot - we have to let our voices be heard.

I am thinking of emailing ING about this as it is a legitimate company shown online..it's just someone has pretended they work for them, which doesn't do anything for ING's reputation does it?

Hello! The scams are becoming more and more elaborate, that's the worrying thing. When my bank account got hacked over Christmas I had to explain MYSELF to the bank on more than one occasion. I got sick of it, as though I was lying or something. I got there in the end but it was such a drag getting my money back. This was on the Play.com website by the way, the place I got scammed. I'm not sure if people outside the UK are familiar with it but my advice to EVERYONE using that site is DON'T!!

Oh my gosh the scams are such on the rise. As I signed up with careerbuilder, which is a very high profiled job searching site. So I am getting so many fraud/scam offers that it is unbelievable. I recently received this one assignment offer, it was quire professionally offered and made it seem so real then I receive a reply that I would have to take an advance pay for any incurred expenses with this online networking assignment, okay great. But wait after the set amount is used, I was to return the amount left over. I hit delete quicker then the scammer would contemplate that I send them my bank information.

Goodness me, you had a lucky escape there my friend. We always have to be "one step ahead" of the scammers and it's becoming more and more difficult isn't it?

I also got an email not long ago from synovate's research panel. Apparently there is a scam out that is using their name to promote a mystery shopper's assignment. It is not them. Someone is falsely using their name. A person is delivered a check by FedEx and asked to wire money and take a certain portion of it as a research assignment and it says that the sender's name is synovate. I am glad that admin notified everyone about this because some people would fall victim to it because synovate is trusted.

It seems no legitimate site is safe from people stealing their good name. I have heard of Synovate but I don't use them. It is so frustrating this happens and I don't think the perpetrators are ever brought to justice as it's so difficult to track them down. Thanks for informing us about this, it's much appreciated.
