Depends on your starting weight. Most Dr's want you to gain between 25-30 lbs total during pregnancy unless you start out underweight (they want you to gain more) or overweight (they want you to gain less). At 27 weeks, that seems like a lot of weight to have gained to me. I started off underweight with my son and gained 40 lbs and that was okay since I was 15 lbs under what the average weight for my height was at the time. With my daughter I gained about 20 pounds, but I was average weight for my height. If you are all baby, I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are gaining fat, you should start exercising, eating a bit more healthy. You don't want to gain 60 pounds and not loose any of the weight because you gained the weight, not the baby.

You just sound like a person who carries big babies to me lol My neighbor was that way. She gained 70 lbs during pregnancy and within a month it was all about gone. She ended up smaller than she was pre-pregnancy at about 2 month after birth.

Everyone is different. They just can't put a general number on every woman. Listen to your doctor as he/she knows your body best. I gained 49 pounds with my baby and she weighed in at 7 lbs. I lost about 20 lbs after delivery. 38 years later I still blame pregnancy for the extra weight. Lol But the baby was healthy and well and that's what counts. Gool luck and congratulations on your future bundle of joy.

You could probably gain 40-50 lbs and your baby would likely be perfectly fine. So your doctor says you're doing fine - and you are. Seeming as you can have a perfectly healthy baby while only gaining 20-30lbs, you'd do fine by being careful. How much weight you gain in between is up to you, it just depends on what you want. What your doctor is trying to help you avoid doing is freaking out and becoming anorexic during your pregnancy - which would be bad. Your baby still needs you to eat healthy food. You're right though, you probably won't end up too far off from where you were before!
