Here are some: 1. Tends to be cheaper given similar specifications 2. Most newer technologies are implemented on desktop PCs before they are miniaturized for laptop 3. more available I/O ports 4. you decide the size of your screen. I believe there may be more, but most of the above are probably wish-list now. Portability is King, and you probably should consider a laptop unless you are a die hard gamer who like to tweak your machine for maximum performance.

Laptops are portable but when parts of it become defective, they'd be hard to find or more expensive than that of the desktop's because of it's size. Think of it as the same function as that of the corresponding desktop part but smaller. It would cost more to fuse that functionality into a smaller chip. Most of the time laptop parts become defective (due to wear and tear) in time that new models are in the market. Replacement parts would be hard to find then. What's good about laptops is that it is portable. Desktops are hard to carry around but replacement parts are more ready than for laptops and also less expensive because most of these parts are big and the manufacturers will not have to exert so much to fuse it's function into the replacement part. Also, desktops are easier to repair than laptops. Laptop repairs are more delicate and so the price follows. Laptop repairs are more expensive than desktop repairs.

The laptop and desktop have there own advantages; desktop advantages is this if the parts of the desktop if become defective it's easy to replace unlike the laptop but the disadvantage of the desktop, it's hard to carry from one place to another unlike the laptop...
