Football in the Philippines

Recently, FOOTBALL a.k.a SOCCER became a sensation in the Philippines come about 2-3 years ago the Philippine National Team doesn't evn get any support from government or private sectors given we are the oldest football leagues in Asia.
Me, as a football fan I'm very proud of this achievement for this sport in our country. It has finally reached to the general public the feeling the game of football gives.
So as a Filipino, how to do you perceived football in the Philippines?

Well I was also surprised that the sport became an instant celebrity when this team Azkal started showing that they have potential to do it internationally. I am not that fan of the sport but when I first saw the potential my interest grew as well. Seeing those handsome players makes others more interested.

Handsome players does add indeed a certain appeal to the game. But I hope fans would not forget why they support the team and love this wonderful game of football. =)

yes, finally the philippines has caught up with the most popular sports in the world, football. i am glad that it is time for the philippines to focus on a sports that can propel the country to new heights given the support of the government and private sector. i think it is beginning to come and happen. the recent achievements of the national football team has made football popular in the basketball-crazy nation.

Soccer had been around pretty long, in fact, I even played back in grade school... and my daughter played it in public high school, and the Ateneo boys, the Marist boys, they have weekend practices, and in the UP Sunken Garden, big boys collide
!
Basketball sort of sidetracked soccer... but now we are emerging into a new age of sports... college volleyball is on tv!

I am really proud of the football/soccer players too. I didn't even know that we had them until a few months ago... Too bad we don't really have enough budget to support them in their training and the venue.. We can only support them through our prayer and presence in their games. Hope they win more games..

If the sport will bring fame and honor to the country, I am for it. Of the Filipino people will have same access of it just like the elite group,then I am for it. If this sport will get the youth into worthwhile activities then I am for it! I will cheer for this sport if it will bring good to the Philippines sports!
