I find it interesting the Unions use the term "Scab".

In union terms, a "Scab" is a person who accepts a job vacated by striking workers. Let's look at what a scab actually is. When you get a wound, a scab forms to protect the wound from infection while the body uses other systems to heal the wound. So, using the unions' own slang, a person temporarily hired to fill a job vacated by a strike protects the wound while it heals. I wonder what that makes striking union members? I wonder what that makes the unions themselves? ;~D

A scab is not as strong at protecting the inside of the body as skin is. That's why its only temporary while the break in the skin heals. I'm sure that, from the unions' point of view, they are the strong skin that is supposed to be there, and the break in the skin is caused by the strife between them and the company. The "scabs" are the inferior replacement that is only temporary, just to keep the company from dying, while the strife is mended and the strong skin can resume its task. But of course they resent people who will do the same work for less money. That's what greedy people do. And I'm all for reasonable living wages, and I don't think companies should just be able to abuse workers, but most people have delusions about what a living wage is. If you can support yourself and your family on it, it's a living wage. And guess what, things like 2 luxury cars, 500 tv channels, a computer in every room, and the latest gadget for every family member are not neccessities for supporting a family. But some people will never understand that.

Exactly, it has nothing to do with "living wages" it has everything to do with "keeping up with the Joneses".

ParaTed2k(5273, Hi!you have raised a good topic.I guess unions need to look at their terminology in these modern times.Language used years ago is being examined carefully now and can be offensive sometimes.I don't think that they get the respect they had years ago either because they are trying to please everybody(i.e employer and employee) and that cannot happen. Most of the time the later is the least satisfied, yet this group pays the union employees wages. What a world we live in.
