When you travel do you stay in hotels/motels or find a campground?

I love going on road trips. This year I'm planning on following maines coast line. It's going to be fun to stop at different beaches. I like to collect shells and smooth sea glass. Anyway, whenever I go traveling I try to always stay at campgrounds. It's so much cheaper and sometimes you can get a really quiet area. It's nice to be out in the nature with the birds waking you up in the mornings. I always look for camp site with a stream or a lake nearby. I like sitting near the water. Of coarse I have to go to a hotel every couple of days to have a nice shower and watch the weather channel to make sure the rest of my trips going to me nice. What do you prefer when you travel?

When I travel I choose to stay in locally owned guest houses, cheap hotels and when I get the opportunity unusual accommodation. I have recently come back home from my trip to Colombia. There I stayed at four different places: a hotel, a cheap hotel and two guest houses. My idea was to stay at a hotel for the first four days but my stay turned into double that due to me hurting my foot and my kids getting sick. The bill from that was quite a lot so I wanted cheaper accommodation for the remainder of my trip. I traveled to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala on my favorite trip. I was 34 years old at that time. I stayed at a colorful guest house on Caye Caulker. Then in Bullet Tree Falls I stayed in a tall tree house. Wow! That was a very special experience. On the Mexican coast I stayed in a thatched beach hut and it had a sand floor. I have enjoyed camping in my own tent on some of my trips. In my younger days I stayed in backpacker hostels and youth hostels.

A tree house really is a special place to stay and it is a memorable experience. The tree house that I stayed in was called Parrot Nest so I think that is a fitting and charming name. It is wonderful that you have found some tree houses to look at on the Internet.

Wow, you have traveled. I have seen tree house places you can stay in. I found a couple places on the Internet. I have always wanted a tree house when I was young but never had one built. I will someday go and stay in one. I think it would be the neatest thing to be up in a tree, even though I'm afraid of heights. I will risk it, I hope anyway.

I would love to sleep in a hotel because it is very comforting especially if I traveled for long hours. but if given a chance sleeping on a campground is something to experience.

Sometimes if I have been driving all day and it's getting dark I try to find a hotel off the road I'm driving. To get into a bed after sitting all day is really nice. But when camping it's just nice to be right out in nature. I have had a moose walk up, about 100 feet away from my tent. That was amazing!

I don't do outside very well, I'm allergic to so many things and my fibro makes it hard to consider sleeping any place but a bed. My roommate doesn't do outside, because of her vision. If she's unfamiliar with a place, she wants a nice flat area to walk around and preferably inside because she sees even WORSE in bright sunlight.

That would be hard to be outside in a tent. I just found out I have fibro and I'm trying to deal with it. But I don't want to give up some of the things I really enjoy, no matter what pain I have to go through. I just got good sleeping pills so I have half way good sleep through the night. Hopefully I can keep going out and camping but I may have to switch to hotels. I'll find out when I go on my trip to see how well it goes. I hope you are doing well.

I hope you can manage it. I have to say that camping out wasn't something we ever did growing up, my DAD'S idea of roughing it was staying in a motel.

Hi. lee333angel. Welcome to myLot! I prefer to stay in a motel/hotel. Only for safety purposes. I feel more safe and secured at a motel/hotel rather than camping in the deep woods. I have always loved camping, I just can't pull myself to camp out in the deep woods. If I would do so, I need to bring several people with me.

Currently, I use hotels. I have a two year old in diapers. It is just too difficult if i need to change a diaper in the middle of the night to do it in a tent. When she is a bit older, we will go back to campgrounds.

I have friends who have young kids. We were just talking about camping and how she really wants to but she can't right now because of her children. She is planning to go camping with us when summer comes. Her oldest will be 4 years and wants her to experience camping. It should be fun.

I like going on road trips to but i unfortunately, have a very high matainence dog. And when i think of this dog i think of the dog that rips the curtains, pees on the carpets, eats the cushions, all of the above, and etc. So i have to say that i prefer to stay in a hotel for the reason that i can't leave my dog alone and i can't find a campground that "he approves of" (i guess is how you could put it. Personally, I prefer camping but i can't with the beast i call "man's best friend" (yeah right). Though honestly, i don't mind as long as i get to have the joys of a road trip! :)

Laughing! I use to have a black lab with very high energy. Never could stop moving and always had to be right on top of me. I use to bring him with me when camping. He popped two air mattresses, ran into my tent and kept going pulling over my tent and making holes and dragging my blankets out and through the woods. I had to stop going on trips because of him. He passed away a couple years ago. I will be getting hopefully a quieter dog soon but trying to go camping a little without a dog. Miss him though!

It depends on where I am traveling, of course. I do enjoy driving my own car along the highways. On those trips , I often stay at the motels located conveniently to get to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping malls. When I am traveling by plane, within the country or abroad, I choose to stay at the reasonably priced hotels. Again, location is a factor when choosing a hotel. I don't like to stay in a noisy downtown location. I would much prefer a place in a quiet peacful area.

Hi I have always stayed in a hotel when I have travelled abroad. whenever I did it on company account, the company paid for the hotel bill. Earlier I used to look for a budget hotel. But now by the grace of God, I can afford a 3-star or 4-star hotel. I haven't tried campgrounds, but would surely like to try once.

When I travel, I tend to stay somewhere in between a motel and a hotel. I would go for the cheap price, but I need to make sure that I can get a great service, and a clean bathroom is really really important. Hehehe.

My family did a lot of caamping when i was a kid. Hotel and motel rates were a bit out of reach. it was more economical and fun to go camping instead. Sometimes camping can not be an option,. After that motels are just as ideal.

I usually stay in hotels, as it is much more comfortable, especially when the travel is long. However, for our next trip, we'll be going to the mountains, and I'm looking forward to camping out!
