Amarok 4x4 is not for heavy terrain

A while ago we did a 4x4 trail where there were some steep sand dunes.
On semi-difficult terrain the Amarok performed ok, but when it got to the steep dunes the Amarok ran out of a steam.
The big problem seems to be the 2 litre TDI engine it had.
The Toyotas also had a go and came out tops!
The Amarok will only be able to come into the Toyotas' league if it also gets sported with a 3litre TDI engine.
Otherwise, the Amarok is a good road vehicle!
