I think that the best way that parents can overcome struggles for power with their children is to pick their battles and to pick those battles wisely. For example, it isn't worth getting in a struggle with your child over them wanting to play with their friends because it is not something that is going to put them in inherent danger. However, if they want to do something that is dangerous that is really where the parents should not waver.
