it took the israelites 40 years to reach the promise land when in fact, it should have only been 40 days. why is that?

You mean we won't have the manna stories, and the golden calf, and the snake staff? Hmmm, then the History of Salvation will be a drab....

hehe, there goes the same answer ... I guess at some point yes...Still, God would have made it easier for them if they were obedient, uh huh?

Hello asia and welcome to myLot. When Moses went up on the mountain to talk with God and get the ten commandments the people decided he wasn't coming back. They had been complaining about how had it was leaving Egypt. With Moses gone they set up a golden calf to worship. It would take 40 years for those that turned their backs on God to die before they got to the promised land. You can read the whole story in Exodus chapter 33 - 35.

Exodus...I read it...and we had the same answer. I got these from an evening with friends. The answer they gave was, no one knew where it was, that's why... But still, we have the same answer... I will read it again...thanks...

It took 40 years because the Israelites murmured against God and they rebelled against Him. God was very angry with the people and that's why the generation that never listen to God's commandments couldn't see the Promised land (Canaan). It's a great lesson to all of us too, we must always listen to God, and everything that God does it's forever and nothing can be added to it or taken from it, so we must submit ourselves to him and then we will see miracles in our life. If we murmured against God and disobeyed his word we will be punished. God Bless You!
