How do you think rights for women will fare in the unrest that is seizing the world? After what happened to the CBS reporter in Egypt, I wonder what it will mean for women the world over. There are beliefs out there that make women vulnerable to horrific attacks for no other reason than that they are women.

As long as women allow themselves to be maltreated , they can never claim for any rights. Their first right is to be protected and be free from any harassment against traditions, beliefs and customs. As long as women can claim to be free from all of these, then she had all the rights to claim her liberty and rights!

I wonder at your use of the word "allow" with regard to women somehow enabling themselves to be treated this way. Women have been abused and maltreated through no actions of their own for a long time. It is all well and good to say that they should stand up for themselves, but in a lot of cases we are demanding that they give themselves over to be killed in that goal. I don't think it is fair to demand that when they are offered little support from places where women are more free.

It would be good if womens rights would fair good in all this but I doubt it will as it is the men that are doing most of all this and I think it suits them to have women held back.

Actually, you will find that there are large numbers of women involved in these protests, but I wonder if their contribution will be recognized after the dust clears. It has been a historic reality that in some parts of the world, women are not viewed as anything more than useful tools for men's use and exploitation. Until that can be rectified, I fear for human rights in general.
